Jesus H. Christ. ‘spirits’??? I see this was a question from 16 years ago, and I would bet a year’s salary there are more dimwits today who believe ‘spirits’ than there were in the year 2000.
I sometimes wonder, if you COULD contact the deceased…why? What is it you would want to hear? ‘I hid the gold watch in the flour bin.’ ‘There’s secret bank account information under the mattress.’ Those would be useful questions after going through all the shenanigans… ‘I’m on Tha Other Side and very happy.’ well, that’s nice. I would have a shit ton more questions than ascertaining dead brother is ‘happy’. Any answers to bigger questions? What’s it like dying? Do you see angels? Is there hell? Can you see ME still alive down here, like Ceiling Cat can see me?
So it’s made it this long on zero merit? None of the players received answers that proved correct to things they did not know beforehand?
For one thing, WHY WOULD OUIJA PLAYERS ASK THE BOARD A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS THAT THEY KNOW THE ANSWERS TO? Sure, maybe you’d ask ONE question with a known answer (your 1st time playing) just to see what it feels like as a test… but I think you are underestimating the power of spirits.
In my opinion, a ouija board is controlled by spirits…and probably evil ones at that. But I have no proof of that declaration. But to your comment, it seems like the ouija board would have had a very short shelf-life, if it NEVER correctly answered odd questions to players whom didn’t know the answers beforehand. No?

Spirits exist… I have been visited by spirits enough that I’m not going to say them all. But I’d be happy to detail 4 of them if you want.
Including Beezlebub. Mostly it has been my deceased parents. It always starts when I am in a deep-sleep…& it’s one of those things that you know it when it happens. I’ve probably had 200 dreams since my parents died that had them in the dream… but when they COME to you…you know it. My dad has come 2 times… My mom 4. one of My best friends 2 times. The Devil once.
The Devil one I hated…the rest were really cool.
People don’t judge the answers to their questions by whether they’re right or wrong. They judge them by whether they’re the answers they want to hear. And that’s exactly what a Ouija board delivers, since the questions are being answered by the people using it.
Were the answers sometimes right anyway? Of course. About half the time, for yes-no questions.
*If there’s something strange in you neighborhood
Who you gonna call? (ghostbusters)
If there’s something weird
And it don’t look good
Who you gonna call? (ghostbusters)

Ghosts are real … spirits are real … it all depends on how you define these words. We really don’t know much about the sub-conscience, or what it’s capable of. What we don’t understand we tend to externalize. We don’t understand ghosts and spirits and we look the wrong direction to find them.
They are us … you wanna call it ideomotor effect, fine; call it whatever you want … I’m sticking with invisible pink unicorns who poop sherbet.
At what point when this toy is mass produced in a factory by the tens of thousands are evil spirits put into them, and how do you suppose it is done? I’ve seen footage of these things being made, and at no time are arcane rituals taking place.
I’m willing to evaluate any evidence you have of these claims.
Personally, I had dreams about my dad almost every night for two years after he died. I interpreted these as my psyche trying to deal with the fact that he was dead.
A Magic 8 Ball is as good a method of making a decision as a coin flip and a lot easier to wrangle than the Ouija board. Shake the Magic 8 Ball and see what the answer is.
I remember as a kid that every time someone dragged out a Ouija board it turned into two people struggling to force that pointer thing to the desired answer. Seems to be a contest of strength. There was no *involuntary *movement going on.
It was great at slumber parties when you were about ten years old. Four or five little girls with their fingers on the pointer, eyes closed and THEN THE POINTER WOULD START MOVING. Cue the giggles and screams, followed by a discussion about the “answer” and a heated argument where everyone would deny moving the pointer.
When we got tired of the Ouija Board, we’d hypnotize each other.
