I have bought some products on Amazon recently, and I do not know if they are as high a quality as I was expecting. How does Amazon screen sellers to avoid counterfeits? I tend to avoid buying many items on ebay because of the counterfeit issue, but I don’t know if Amazon has better quality control.
Amazon was ruled by the Court of Appeals as a “transactional intermediary”, so it doesn’t have to do anything. Manufacturing companies and other sellers on Amazon that lose sales because of counterfeiting would, I’m sure, take action to prevent it.
Just because they don’t have to do anything doesn’t mean that they don’t do anything, though. I’m sure they’ll kick out anyone who they see as damaging to their reputation or business model.
My assumption (not based on any knowledge) is that they’d go by the ratings, and that there is some threshhold of negative ratings (and/or the reasons for them) that would cause Amazon to stop allowing some sellers to participate… Does anyone know for sure?
Seller privileges will be suspended for anyone who makes Amazon look bad. That threshold seems to be flexible - larger sellers have more leeway, as I believe incomes generated for Amazon is taken into consideration.
Pretty much this. Amazon is very pro-customer satisfaction, if you are an Amazon vendor and are causing upset amongst customers you will be suspended. In addition vendors are rated on 5 metrics if you fall behind on 2 they will suspend the account.
