How does one remove tape without damaging the paper

I want to sell something on E-bay and I’ve found that there is tape on part of it. I would like to remove teh tape but I don’t want to damage the paper underneath.

What I have is an animation cel with a paper background. The cel is obviously the main attraction but the background is nice as well. The thing is that there is some tape that is holdiong the cel to the backgound. It will come off the cel no problem but as I said I don’t want to damage the background. (which is of course dark so any pulling up of the image will be fairly obvious)

Run a hair dryer over it and slowly peel up the tape? VERY slowly…

If the tape is holding the cel to the background, why do you want to remove it?

Assuming you’re selling the cel and background together, I’d simply list it as the cel is taped to the background and let the buyer deal with the tape, if they don’t want the two attached.
