How does the National Organization for Marriage "defend" marriage?

Besides the attacking gay marriage thing, they don’t seem to attack adultery or attack anyone who take marriage as a joke. Do they ever plan on funding marriage counselors or helping kids? What exactly are they doing for marriage?

as reference, here is their mission statement:

from the Cookie Monster! OM NOM NOM NOM!

they are against people eating each other out, and seeks to uphold traditional lovemaking where voids are filled and families are created through sustained flexibility.

So for us oldies, who can no longer create families, and have lost the “sustained flexibility” of our youth, marriage is no longer relevant?

Short answer, they don’t really. Are you surprised?
I supposed “National Organization for Marriage” tested with the general public better than the original name “Oh my God, There’s Queers Here who are Trying to Make Us Treat Them Like Normal People! Somebody Do Something!”

This, of course. I don’t recall anybody “defending” marriage before same-sex marriage was an issue.

The name of something is not a description. People tend to lose track of that fact.

It’s especially true with political organizations, who very often take on names that obscure their real goals. For instance, Mitt Romney has a SuperPAC named “Restore Our Future,” which gives no indication it is formed in order to promote Romney as President (and, of course, Democrats do the same thing). That’s what NOM is doing, too.

For another example, Planned Parenthood isn’t so much about helping people plan parenthood in a general sense than it is about providing birth control and abortions.

That is part of the planning process whether you like it or not. And they do a lot of other things besides abortions and birth control that improve the quality of life for the women and promote better health, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. They do a lot of treatment for venereal disease as well; doesn’t that help promote better family lives by ensuring that people don’t needlessly risk having children endangered by Aids and other harmful infections that can harm a child.

Doesn’t Planned Parenthood also offer fertility services (as in, for people who want to have a kid)?

Also note that it’s Planned Parenthood not Planning for Parenthood. The name was changed because the American Birth Control League was too offensive so robert_columbia is somewhat right they were trying to soften the name.

But the point is they advocate for pregnancies that are planned - i.e. by having access to birth control. They certainly weren’t trying to imply they planned all aspects of parenthood ‘in a general sense’ in the 1940s when they changed their name.

Generally, zone, but sometimes they use man-to-man coverage.

Just have to line up with a couple tight ends and they’ll switch to man coverage instantly. Makes you wonder…
