How early did you start to get symptoms of pregnancy?

The the hubby and I have recently started trying to have a baby. As far as I know, I am not pregnant yet but I was wondering how early women usually start feeling the effects. I have a friend who said she didn’t feel anything until the day after she took the pregnancy test, then she was miserable. Another lady I talked to said her boobs were sore the day after the deed.

Also, what symptoms did you feel first? I want to know all the details please.

Let’s see–first pregnancy I got knocked up around the tail end of October and had ouchy tits by the end of November and had started puking in the morning. This was back in the 70s when pregnancy tests weren’t quite as simple as they are now. I didn’t have a confirmed pregnancy test until early January but I was quite sure of my condition long before that. Second pregnancy began while I was still nursing child #1 and I wasn’t actually sure I was pregnant until I was almost four months along when my milk dried up and I felt him kicking! I thought it was hypoglycemia, heh…

I don’t know what the signs were, but my sister figured out my wife was pregnant before my suspected she was.

Congrats Shera on embarking on the path to motherhood! I am also trying for the second time (I have a 12 year old). I had a dream pregnancy - no morning sickness, not a day off work - however I had fluid so badly I couldn’t wear shoes in my third trimester. However, I am also looking for symptoms as pregnancies can differ wildly. Obviously no periods is a dead giveaway, and so are mild headaches, some tracycardia (fast pulse and pounding heart) but I found that the one symptom I had was indigestion, which I’d never had before. Another tip is the feeling ‘not quite right’, not nausea, just not quite yourself in the tummy. Being thirsty all the time, even when sitting, and of course, the sudden urge to pee. Smells might put you off that never bothered you before, such as cigarette smoke, coffee and cooking meat. Good luck - I look forward to hearing of your success!!!

I’ve noticed symptoms as early as six weeks, but I didn’t always realize it until later, in hindsight. Food smelled different to me. I had heartburn constantly. Sometimes, I had sudden aversions to foods or drinks. (Bananas? NO! BBQ sauce? NO! Diet Coke? NO! Coffee? NO! Get them away from me!)

I don’t recall any physical changes that I noticed early, just sensory ones.

My first symptom with all three pregnancies was PMS-like mood swings and bitchiness a good 10-14 days prior to the expected arrival of my period. Then around the time I was supposed to get my period, I got a little breast tenderness with my first pregnancy.

Apart from that, no real symptoms until I felt the baby kicking.

My first symptom was just a feeling that I was pregnant about a week in (would have been around the time of implant), I dismissed it as Friday stress. Couple of weeks later I started arguing with myself over why I wanted flavoured milk (and why *that *godawful flavour). By the time my period was two days late, I pretty much just had to confirm what I already knew.

I started getting morning sickness (all day long) and took the early pregnancy test. I was sickly until 20 weeks.

When I had the ultrasound to confirm the size and therefore how far along I was, I started feeling sick at 5 weeks. Pretty early.

Never been pregnant myself, but my mother says she had cravings for things she’d never really enjoyed before…like Dr. Pepper. (She drank so much of it she still hates it now, almost 30 years later.)

She also said that she knew she was pregnant when she woke up to a gorgeous breakfast buffet and immediately ran to the bathroom to vomit.

Only a crazy pregnant woman could hate the smell of pancakes!

With my first pregnancy, I felt fatigued starting right about the time my period would have been due. And very minor queasiness within about a week. With the second pregnancy (the first didn’t “take”), I don’t think I had the fatigue (that pregnancy was a very easy one except for the hellish delivery).

Some of the early symptoms (ouchy boobs, minor cramping) are the same as with PMS so I don’t count those.

I spent three years going through infertility. The number of times I was SURE I was pregnant because of sore breasts, upset tummy, mood swings, etc., was about half my cycles. The number of times I was pregnant when I was sure I was was zero. When I did get pregnant with my surprise baby, I missed the first trimester…
