I’m wondering if Despicable Me 2 was delayed, or did they release the teaser trailer especially early?
I see the teaser trailer was uploaded on YouTube on 2 Mar 2012. That’s 15 months before the movie comes out next month. When I first saw it I thought, “ok, guess it’s coming out soon.” Nope. Then they released another one in December last year. Do they really expect to be able to build hype for that long?
Especially with something as time and labor intensive as an animated feature. With CGI, sequels are arguably easier because they’ve already done a good portion of the casting and character models, but they still have to write the script and do all of the other design, animation, and other production stuff. In the meantime, they’ve gotta keep it on peoples’ minds.
Hmm, maybe you’re right. I see a teaser for Monsters University uploaded in Jun 2012 and Brave uploaded in Jun 2011, both about 12 months earlier. I didn’t know there was such a big difference between animated and real life movies.
