I am not far from the center of the state. From here to Augusta is 75 miles, according to Google Maps.
I’m just about equidistant from Nevada, Arizona and Mexico.
The point I had in mind was to have some indication of how many Dopers were “close” to a border of their state. For trivia’s sake only. It would appear there are some who are “very close.”
I’m about 35 miles from the Michigan border.
Of course, it’s a water border and the whole distance is over water, since I live on the shore.
If you count ocean crossings, the nearest border is the Bahamas at 83.3 miles. The nearest state border would be 312.4 miles.
Since I’m in the county that’s next over to the west, and a little north of the geographical center of the state, I’m closer to Kentucky and Arkansas than I am to Alabama and North Carolina. But the differences are less than 30 miles either way.
As the crow flies, probably 40 miles to the Wisconsin state line, and something just under that to the Indiana state line. (It takes me just under an hour to drive to either one.)
Well, I live at almost exactly the geographic center of Washington state (the physical point is about a mile south of town). But I’m a mere ~150 miles from the Canadian border. Which I guess is also the northern state line…

I’m about 30 miles from Canada - perhaps 40 from New Hampshire on the one side and New York on the other.

As the car drives, about 120 miles north to Canada.
Maybe 200 miles from the California\Mexico border. About the same distance to Arizona.
