How far from your home town did you settle down?

Found it, approximately. From New Delhi to Albany is 7174 miles, and I think Phillore is about another 100 miles away from New Delhi.

Albany to warren, MI is 471 miles.

I, too, spent a number of years in Boulder, CO - I finished college there and hung out for a couple of years playing music and working crap jobs. I liked the friends I had in Boulder, and I liked the outdoorsy lifestyle, but job and music-wise it was very stifling - even the friend situation was growing a little stale - so I moved to NYC 14 years ago. It’s about 45 miles from where I grew up in New Jersey. I met my wife here and our two girls were born here. I think I finally got it into my thick skull that I’m not just here temporarily!

Well, what do you mean by “home town”? I lived in seven different towns before I graduated from high school. None for more than three years. And those towns were, in some cases, across the continent from each other, or even in different countries.

And because I get asked a lot, no, my dad was not in the military. Each move was for a different reason.

I live in my hometown. I was born in Maine, taken home from the hospital to live in Alton, NH, but only stayed there a couple of years. We moved to Concord, NH and that’s where I grew up. I have been to other places, lived as a student in France, lived for about a year and a half in Miami – I HATED Florida! – and now I am haoppily back in New Hampshire. ]

It’s getting more and more congested, though. More houses, more condos, more chain stores and shopping malls and fast food restaurants. And housing costs have gotten so high, I may soon have to move just to be able to afford to live. If I had to leave the state, I’d probably move to Maine. I would also be quite happy in Canada or England, possibly even in France.

Are you defining 'home town" as where you were born? Or where you mostly grew up?

I was born in Washington state, not too far from Seattle, but was mostly raised and lived my life til this January in Alaska (about 2 or 3 thousand miles from Seattle).

I pretty much settled in Anchorage, with a 4 and a half year stint on the Kenai Peninsula(to lower 48 newscaster, this is pronounced Keen eye, NOT kuh nai). Then I checked out Texas for the last 8 months, and am moving back to Anchorage in September.

I don’t think I’ll EVER “settle” though.

I was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in and near Rockville, Maryland (a suburb of D.C.). I now live about an hour north of Sydney, Australia. We probably won’t settle here in this town, but somewhere else in the same state. My husband’s from here. He lives within very short walking distance of his high school and about 2 km from where he lived as a kid.

While I was actually born in Salt Lake City, I departed there at the age of six months. I grew up here in Houston, Texas, where I live now. I left for college, but came back. Not for family, as with the exception of my oft traveling mother (whose 88th birthday is tomorrow, and she’s out of town), they’ve all emmigrated elsewhere.

I’m here partly because this is the center of gravity for my career (exploration geophysicist) and partly because I love this city. It doesn’t hurt at all that I’ve got many decades old friends within a couple of hundred miles (I did live in Austin for almost six years - I like that city, and I visit often, but I’d rather be here).

Born in Dayton, OH and since then
[ul][li] Avondale Estates, GA[/li][li] Sewanee, TN[/li][li] Pensacola, FL[/li][li] Dumfries, VA[/li][li] Santa Ana, CA[/li][li] Cincinnati. OH[/li][li] Tupelo, MS[/li][li] Pratts, MS which is about 500+ miles from where I started out.[/ul][/li]
Dragwyr I know exactly where Paw Paw, MI is. It’s very close to Holland, MI.
Tell everyone what a paw paw is.

60 miles give or take a couple.

Grew up in West Yorkshire. Moved over the Pennines to Bolton for work related reasons.

I grew up in Richmond, Virginia, moved to NYC for five years after college, and now live in Canton, Ohio with my husband-to-be. So about 420 miles or so?

We’re not staying, though. We want to go out to the West Coast, preferably Oregon or New Mexico or Arizona. We’ve had enough of the East Cost.

Wow, I’m from Stafford. Were you in the Marines (I can’t think of any other reason to live in Dumfries unless you’re stationed at Quanitico).

Anyhoo, I live about 75 miles from where I was born and raised. I came to Richmond to go to college and have stayed on.

I was born in Calgary and after a few hops all over the map, I have been moving steadily south. My current address in Austin is a tick over 2156 miles (driving distance) from the home I grew up in.

I’m still in my hometown. I currently live about 1.5 miles from the house I grew up in, about 3 miles from my parents, within 15 miles of both sisters and next door to my grandparents. There is a cemetary 5 miles from my house where I can count back about 8 generations on my father’s side and one 20 miles away where I can count back about 8 generations on my mom’s side. My family doesn’t get around much. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Grew up in: Kettering, Maryland, USA
Have settled in: Dublin, Ireland
Distance: 3380 miles
Reason: Because I love it here, that’s all.

I live about 5 miles from where I grew up. I work in my hometown and I like the 15 minute commute. Within the next year or so I will be making the sacrafice and we will be moving a bit further away where housing is cheaper so we can get a bigger house.

avabeth To begin with New Mexico and Arizona are not on the coast. Second if you think the East Cost is bad, wait until you get a taste of the West Cost. :stuck_out_tongue:

I moved alot as a child/young adult - so I really have no preferred ‘home town’. So, according to Mapquest, my current home (bremerton, WA) is:

Early childhood (Chagrin Falls, OH): 2477.18 miles

Middle childhood (Danville, KY): 2540.00 miles

High School graduation (Laurinburg, NC): 3009.83 miles

College (Greenville, NC): 3082.33 miles

I grew up in the small town of Logansport, Louisiana. I went to graduate school at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. When I decided to drop out I moved to Boston to be with my girlfriend (now wife). We now own a house in the Boston suburbs. Approximate distance from home-town: 1700 miles

We bought a house in my hometown, and at this point in our lives have no plans to leave though goodness only knows what the future may bring. We would like our next house to be in one of the neighbouring towns but aren’t planning on putting our house on the market any time soon.

Iwas born in Webster, Burnett County, Wisconsin. When we visited there in 1936 the population was listed as 301. When we went up again in 1946 the population was still listed as 301. My uncle, who was game warden for the county, said the static population was because whenever a baby was born, someone left town. That’s what happened in my case. After I was born my parents moved back to their original home of Cherokee, Iowa where I grew up, almost.

I now live on the desert in California, about 1800 miles from there.
