Ice cream in my freezer gets freezer burn and pitched after about 6 months. We usually only buy it for putting atop birthday cake or pie (which we seldom have).
We do, however, go out for a scoop of ice cream about once a month. Then we can all get what we want.
My wife and I usually consume a “half gallon” of ice cream in 3-4 servings. We usually have a dessert four or five nights a week, so ice cream usually lasts about a week when we buy it.
It’s not unusual for me to binge on ice cream, eating an entire pint* in one sitting . . . then feeling really, really sick. For that reason, I don’t have it in the house.
Problem is, I never am the only one to eat it. It usually lasts a couple of days, because I intentionally try to save it. And then someone else eats like three bowls when I’m gone, even when they have ice cream with chocolate in it that they can eat.
I can’t complain too much, though. I do this with pizza.
Hubby recently bought a pint of Haagen Daz dulce de leche. 3 of us (me, hubby and grown son) took 4 days to finish if off. Granted, hubby and I ate the first servings with plain potato chips, so it was only part of the dessert.
And when we are eating from a pint we never put it in a bowl or a glass but instead get two spoons and eat it directly from the carton. We’d never do that with a half gallon.
Sigh… Depends on if I decide to throw it away or not. See, I eat some of it then put it back in the freezer. Someone else then wants some, takes a bit, leaves the tub out to melt then puts it back in the freezer turning it into some god awful frozen cream tub. I can’t be bothered to eat that garbage once it’s thawed then frozen.
I’m not big into ice cream. I do get Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream now and again, but it takes me a while to make it through a pint. Like 2, 3 months? And that’s if I remember I have it - ice cream can (and has) sit in my fridge for months. We just don’t really eat a lot of it.
Now, I could talk to you about salty snacks. They’re my vice.
My roommate makes ice cream, and we typically get 4 servings out of a pint. It’s very, very rich stuff, though. We probably go through 4 pints in a month between the two of us.
Our ice cream is in half-gallon boxes. On average, I guess I have four scoops a month. I don’t know how much the roomie eats. There are three kinds of ice cream in the freezer, and two of them have been in there for more than a month.
All you ice cream lovers, try haagen daz five. Supreme ice cream at its most basic level: Cream, milk, sugar, eggs and flavoring (vanilla, chocolate, carmel, coffee, mint, strawberry or the bestest of all, lemon).
I get about 7-8 servings out of a carton (the kind that used to be 2 quarts but is now only 1.75), and I eat one serving every day or two, so a carton lasts me about 1-2 weeks.
