But, whenever they do that, their response seems to involve doubling down on the crazy.
I’d say there’s an ‘outside the Conservative bubble’ bias here. In ‘conservative speak’, all these people are “Liberals”, but that isn’t any more factually true than all the other bullshit in the bubble.
As a crazy person I am insulted by that association with the Republican party.
You really want to hijack your own thread over convention prostitution? What a staggering lack of faith in your original “argument” that you’d be so willing to go that route. Most of the time people derail *other *people’s threads when they feel they’re at a loss. Well played.
Yeah, that one definitely got a snicker out of me. Ron Fournier, that leading practitioner of bothsidesdoitism? Respected by liberals? Not in this particular universe.
Anyway, the Dems aren’t particularly fucked. In fact, I think the Dems have a real opportunity, if they don’t fritter it away. The shutdown was a smaller-scale version for the GOP of what Katrina was for Bush - the moment that caused doubts about them to really coalesce in a lot of people’s minds.
If I were the Dems, I’d take advantage of this moment to push for a minimum-wage increase, just to make sure everyone was reminded quickly of whose side each party was on. The GOP’s intransigent opposition to upping the minimum wage (I think it’s safe to assume intransigence), coming on the heels of the shutdown, would help drive the point home.
This, I agree with. It’s why I read and post here.
I wonder what the liberals reading this post do?
For one, we read the posts of the many outspoken conservatives on this board. Though I sort of suspect you’d rather us not judge the conservative position based on many of them, just as I would hope that this Board is not your principal source of information about liberal beliefs.
I watch fox news with chris wallace every sunday, it’s the only channel we get at work. I also read Red State, but that is mostly for entertainment value.
I try to stay within my own bubble – infinitely preferable to depressing reality.
Edited because I didn’t realize this was not in the Pit.
Maybe you should ask sometime.
Lurk on Free Republic occasionally just to keep up with their world-view. But one can only take so much at a time.
An alternative for lurking are the forums on hannity(dot)com. There are a few sane conservative voices over there, though they tend to get drowned out by the Palindrones and other batcrap crazies.
The opinion page at CNN (which I barely look at for news these days because they’re hardly any kind of respectable news organization anymore) is filled with Conservatives.
Good or Bad?
I’m sure their arguments play well with Conservatives. They don’t play well with me.
IceQube, OMGABC, please please continue thinking as you do! It will assure the continued destruction of the Republican Party and that would be a great thing for all Americans! And even though I’m telling you why I want you to think what you do, I know that you guys won’t change or even self-evaluate just a little bit and change your tune! You’re stuck the way you are! Thanks! It makes it easier to eliminate the GOP as a national party!
One of the best moments of the election night on 2012, one of many many great moments, is seeing the bubble burst around guys like Karl Rove and those other conservative pundits and conservative operatives on the ground lamenting their surprise that somehow, despite all the polls, the Democrats won in a landslide! Almost none of them saw it coming! It was one of the best political nights of my life! I’m so happy that with the continued idiocy of the Tea Baggers, that moment will replay every 4 years for the foreseeable future. And I’m glad there are people like you two who will, oblivious to facts and polls and real journalists of the sort working for the New York Times, continue to believe that the GOP has a snowball’s chance in hell at some of these elections.
Please give my regards to, LOL, future governor Ken Cucinelli!
Bwahahahaha!
I was referring to this bit on theDaily Show. Start at around 00:50 after the commercial.
Before the Firebug took up most of my free time, I used to read The Corner with regularity. And I certainly hear enough of the bullshit that GOP Congresscritters are spouting to feel comfortable in my ability to dismantle it with little effort.
Arguing with you is much more challenging, but they are the GOP as it really is.
You know Mitch McConnell just said that de-fanging the debt ceiling would give the President a blank check to spend as he wanted to? Guy doesn’t even understand about appropriations - or is more likely bullshitting about them at a ridiculously low level.
Yeah, I can beat up on that shit. And that’s the leader of the Senate GOP.
The best moment in my life was when the supposedly unelectable radical who only won 22 states in 1976 carried 49 states in 1980. Enough with your revisionist history. Half a million votes is hardly a mandate.
