The thing is, I don’t mind helping her if it’s something she genuinely needs help with. Yesterday she came over with four books, and needed one copy from each book. Come on now!! Had she needed a variety of copies, or something that would have been time consuming, I would understand. But, if it’s something that she could have done in less time than it took to ask me, I think it’s ridiculous.
I don’t feel I’m above doing anything. It’s my job to assist, and I do it well. But, I don’t appreciate having my time wasted. Just because there is a copy to be made doesn’t mean I have to do it no matter what. I have more pressing things to do than be her gofer.
It’s really an issue of respect, and she has none for me. It’s that simple.
Our fax machine and copier are right in the middle of the office. Boss’s office is on one end, mine is on the other. Sometimes, he will walk all the way through the office, past the copier and fax machine, and ask me to fax something. Thankfully he does use the copier.
He will also walk all the way to my office to tell me that he has just sent me an email. By that time I’m already reading the thing.
And he will ask me to print out a copy of a document he has access to via the network. And ask again the next day when he’s lost the first copy. The filename and path is on the bottom of every document I give him.
What has begun to irk me lately though is the project manager, upset with receiving so much spam, has asked me to filter his Outlook software to put the offending emails in his trash, then empty the trash every day upon closing the program. That is not remotely anywhere near my job. Yes, I do set up email accounts for new employees. But for crying out loud, it’s your spam and your inbox. Fix it yourself.
No janitorial staff. (only 22 employees here) Cleaning person comes only once a week. If left for 7 days, that slushie would likely draw ants and turn into a disgusting brown glob. Yum!
Heh, a little while ago I had someone in my cube asking for something, a pile of folders sitting here, and some work up on my screen. Ms. Annoying comes up and just stands there while I’m talking to this other co-worker. I said, “Yeah, so what do you need?” She says, “Well, this fax didn’t go through yesterday, can you do it again?”
Obviously, I was in the middle of about three things so I said, “Oh, if you don’t know how to use the fax machine, I’d be glad to show you once I’m done with this other stuff.” Haha, she then went and did it her damn self. The woman standing in my cube said, “I can’t believe she’s asking you for faxing!!! Even management does their own faxing!!”
So, I wasn’t the only one who thought it was absurd.
