They are funny, but when they happen in movies, I always see that as poor writing. A cheap laugh.
That being said, true stories involving farts always make me laugh.

I laughed when I read the thread title.
Fart jokes aren’t funny though, farts are. Once, in 8th grade, I was in math class and somebody said something funny. I laughed and farted… then laughed… and farted. This went on for probably 9 or 10 times. It was the most embarrassing and hilarious thing ever.
Really? I can tell you one. I had a relative die in my arms once under tragic circumstances and she farted about 30 seconds after clinical death was announced by the doctors. That was not funny and never will be. I give them a negative ten. It is just a necessary physical phenomenon and I don’t really associate with people that find them funny. I have had very, very sick people barf all over me as well and I don’t find that funny on either side either. I don’t mean to sound like a prick (even though I probably am) but I do have a pretty good sense of humor but that doesn’t include farts.
Same. I think it’s the surprised look more than anything else.
Looks like I have something to add to my Christmas list! Woo Hoo!
Farting is always funny (well, maybe less funny if it happens right after a death in the family). Five out of five.
In addition to the famous “Blazing Saddles” farting scene, there is also this classic - I don’t know which is funnier, the original Family Guy farting contest or some guys imitating it in real life.
It has come to my attention that you Murkins are particularly uptight about the farting. I recall seeing threads where husbands and wives were saying that they never fart in front of their spouse, and they expect their spouse to never fart in front of them. The circles I run in don’t have rules nearly that strict for farting - family and spouses fart around each other all the time. You have to be especially smelly to get told to take it elsewhere. We mostly try not to fart too much in public, but it is no big deal when it does happen.
Sometimes farts can be funny. Not fart ‘jokes’. If you think you got weary of them in 5th and 6th grade, try having a 5th or 6th grader! I finally told my son to SHUT UP about the farting already. Heh.
Funny farts would be along the lines of a small child or the dog farting at an inopportune time, or like some have mentioned above when a person is laughing and one escapes.
But this:
I don’t find funny at all. I probably wouldn’t call you out on it, but if you did it often then I would avoid you. No offense.
<snerk> you said fart.
It appeals to my inner 8 year old and you can dance to it so I’ll give it a 5.
What I want to know is who would win a farting contest between Batman and Super man?
That is a stupid question. Bat man is a real guy. Superman is made up. Mighty mouse would make a better competition with Superman. I still think Superman would win.
It’s a turd, it’s a flame, its Superman!

But then I’m an old grouch.
There is a time and a place for everything, at the right time, it’s a 5

At the risk of influencing the scientific accuracy of this poll cough, it appears that the only more polarizing poll I could have come up with is on cat declawing.
Seems to me you either find it hysterical or as funny as a concrete block.
The day that they rank as 0 for me, will likely be on my assisted suicide death bed. I have a sense of humor and would like to keep it that way. Screw “growing up”
I find it humorless, but not depraved.
But that’s the thing: I’m not uptight about them. I’m not embarrassed by them, nor do I find them inappropriate, generally speaking. I think it’s actually people who ARE uptight, embarrassed by them or find them inappropriate that find them funny. (I base this mostly on the fact that I only think they’re funny when they’re inappropriate, which is hardly ever.)
To me, they’re like swallowing after you chew or putting one foot in front of the other to walk - it’s just the way your body works. Why is that funny? Funny is unusual or unexpected, and farts are the most usual thing in the world.
Okay, THIS story did not make me even crack a smile. Usually, it is stories of someone deliberately farting for the sake of juvenile amusement that make me laugh. Stories where someone accidentally farts and is humiliated usually just make me feel sorry for them.
True fart stories almost always make me laugh.
Can I try one on y’all and you rate it for me, please?
0-10 (with 10 being you rolling on the floor, okay?)
This actually happened to me at age 18 when I was taking the SAT for admission to West Georgia College.
I’m sitting in a large room with about 40+ other kids when I begin noticing some peristalsis beginning to happen, so because it’s ultra-quiet in there, I decide to squeeze my butt cheeks together.
Y’all ever do that?
Sometimes that works and it goes away, but sometimes it’s worse, (like in my case) and it goes off inside you, and that’s what happened that morning.
All I can tell you is that it sounded like about three seconds worth "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
Of course everyone around me knew it was me, and that morning it was funny as hell, and actually made for some “comic relief”, but I wonder if I may have cost some folks some time on the test?
Well?
Whatcha think?
Q
Definitely 0. I don’t think I’ve ever found it funny, no matter what the timing. I just don’t get it.
