How good are you at etymology?

Yikes, 3 out of 5. Do I blame it on the bottle of wine I just consumed, or am I simply a moron? Cecil will surely know.

2 attempts - once was 5 out of 10, the second time was 7 out of 10.

8/10, which was pure luck. I didn’t really know any of them.

I tried to take it, but there were no questions about insects at all!

Did that bug you?

6/10

But in all fairness two of the words I got were “frou-frou” and “peacoat (or pea jacket)” which I have never heard or read before and thus should be discounted.

Woo-hoo!
9/10. I messed up on the Petri dish one.

Yeah, “zymoscope,” I’m an idiot for missing that one! :dubious:

I got 9 out of 10 but I guessed on more than one.

The second question is the one I missed.

Oh wait, I guess it doesn’t matter which one I got wrong since the questions change. I know etymology but I don’t know how to read for comprehension!

5/10, which to be perfectly honest, is about 5 better than I thought I would do.

7/10

7/10

6 of 10, twice.

8/10

20/20. If that’s difficult, I’d hate to see an easy one. :smug:

Hey Doc, the entomology quiz is next week. Same lecture hall, at least.

7/10, but they vectored the old canard about Roman armies being paid in salt. From the American Heritage Dictionary:

2/10. Worse than guessing.

My second try was 9/10. I’m getting better.
