How I became a sorta Buckeye: a scarlet and gray MMP

Happy Birthday BookKitty

(Yes, I kinda borrowed from rosie)

I’ve successfully done some laundry, picked up newspapers and other recyclables, made my way through about 1 million coupons and had lunch. About to go to Target and possibly supermarket. Decided to make spinach dip for the appetizer tomorrow and also take some fruit and cheese, cuz that’s always good. I think I’ve got my whole grocery list put together, but I’m afraid I’ve forgotten something, so that’s why I’m considering waiting.

I’m drinking hot tea. So, there! :stuck_out_tongue:

I was contemplating starting a game of Doperball, Drae, but decided that would keep me from getting stuff done. (I’m not even gonna look to see if you started one because I’ll never make it to Target if I do.) ::squeezes eyes tightly shut::

Back later.

Well, I am a cranky SCL this morning. Never let your husband read Stephen King right before bedtime. Night before last, Mr. SCL was having a nightmare and hit me in the eye with his elbow. Yesterday, it was swollen and the eyeball itself was blood red. Today, the entire eyelid is purple. The eye is still red and the whole thing is swollen and hurts like a toothache. I so do not want to go anywhere looking like this. I can only imagine how it is going to look tomorrow. I’m not missing the hockey game for a black eye. Grrrrrrrrr.

Back later when I’m hopefully less grumpy.

But, but, but…you’ll fit right in with your black eye! You’ll be mistaken for one of the players!
I ache now all over from my mishap this morning-the benefits of getting old.

Pecan pies are in the oven! And they smell NUMMY.

Gee Snakes I would think if anywhere it were appropriate to appear with a black eye it’d be a hockey game.

Oh and since Rosie asked and since it’s been mentioned a couple times, here are the doperball rules from the original thread.

That paper done yet? I didn’t think so. Back to your room right now young lady.

Of course not. You’ll fit right in!
btw - what is a “Coaches’ Show”? Do the coaches go all vaudeville on y’all?

Cool! Has the Game started yet?

You forgot Extra Sherry and Sandwiches.

Catholics seem to have the Sacrament of Extra Collection. Strange. It’s not in the catechism. Nava, gt, and dogbutler, is there some sort of rule that Sunday Mass has to have really awful praise songs, or is it just the parishes I’ve been to?

Time for lunch (creamed chicken) and scrubbing and bleaching the kitchen. I’ve shortened the jeans, hemmed a tank top, and re-cut the sleeves on a dress. I feel all busy.

LiLi Extra Sherry and Sandwiches are Anglican Rites the Whiskypal church didn’t adopt.

I

Am
Outta Here!!!

Closing the laptop, going to grab some lunch, then the library, then the post office, then the gym, then HOME for four glorious non-working days of eating too much and drinking just the exact right amount!!!

Y’all who are still working…(and you rigs, Little Miss Got a Paper To Do…), have a wonderful afternoon at work!!!

Gimme bout another twenty minutes and I’m outta here. WOOHOO!!!

It’s maddeningly quiet around here, so I can hear every word out of AC’s mouth. New Girl is leaving at noon, since it’s so quiet.

AC: but I’ll be here all by myself.
New Girl: Jahdra’s here.
AC: Why do you get to go? I’ll be here all alone.
Oops, time for Jahdra to go get tea (Red Zinger)*.

She likes me, doesn’t she? She really does, I can tell.

*BTW, what do diabetics/dieters do about tea in the South? Do they ask for unsweet tea and add their color (pink, blue, yellow) of choice? Does tea come in sugar/non-sugar (but still sweet)?

Jah one can request unsweet tea. It must be requested however. If you just say tea you will get sweet tea. Requesting unsweet tea will get you unsweet tea and funny looks.

QD just called. I am in big trouble for telling her other best friend about the underwear situation, because we are now underwear shopping on Friday. I answered the phone to shrieks of high-pitched fury.

When she paused for breath, I told her that all of you are worried, too.

Aagh agh aagh aagh! How do they know? Why are you telling the Dopers about this? There is nothing wrong with my underwear, and I am currently wearing the pair that’s safety-pinned together, and they’re fine!
She’s so cute. She might sign up as a guest, to come in and explain her side. I think that would be awesome.

Time to clean the kitchen!

The Coach’s Show is a radio show the Coach does every Monday - usually broadcast from a resturant. He talks about the games of the last week - good and bad - and usually has two players as guests. Then he answers questions from the crowd. There are usually at least 50 of us hard-core fans there, so the resturant gets a good crowd on a Monday night, and we all tip well since we take up a table for about two hours. I usually get there an hour before the show starts to eat and socialize, then the show lasts an hour. It’s lots of fun and I get to socialize with people I don’t see much at games because they sit across the ice from me.

Jahdra - tea is usually available sweetened or unsweetened. Then there are the weirdos like me - it seems as I have gotten older the sweetened tea is just too sweet, so I order half and half. A friend of mine orders “Arnold Palmers”, which is half sweet tea and half lemonade. Iced tea is a necessity in the Soth during the summer, and it is hard to get the sugar to dissolve once it’s cold. So it has to be brewed or steeped, then sweetened, then iced. My mother used to tell me she thought I had some Yankee from my father’s side of the family, because I can’t make tea. It always turns bitter, no matter what kind of tea I use or how I make it. She was of the opinion that real Southern girls are born knowing how to make iced tea.

I need to go to the store to get goodies for Connor’s road bag - they are leaving for Florida right after the game tomorrow night.

We got 59 minutes. For you non-gov’t employees, there’s a rule that allows boss-types to grant under an hour off without having to charge leave. So when they feel generous, they give us 59 - generally right before a holiday. So I got home an hour early. I had every intention of baking my last 2 pies. I will, but I’ve been catching up. Dang, you folks posted a lot since last night!!

Found out today that the Dope is blocked again at work. Oh well…

**FCD ** has asked for my help, so on Friday - MY DAY OFF - I’ll be going to work with him and painting his new office. I find it interesting that my request to finish the spare bedroom, including paint, was brushed off in favor or working on the boat, but when it came to his office… Fine, but I get him on Saturday, and we’re going to take care of all the branches and trees that have fallen in the yard, and we’re going to finish disassembling the split rail fence that I’ve hated since we moved in here. Fair is fair.

It’s pouring, it’s cold (in the 30s) and windy and just plain ick outside. I’d lay a fire, but all the firewood is soggy. So the oven will have to take the chill out of the air. I have decided to do the buttermilk pie first, and the peach streusel second. Off to the kitchen I go.

But first - since I don’t know when I’ll get on again:
Happy b-day, BibKitty!!

we were just given an hour after my very own AC pestered the supervisors and managers all day with “how come the other groups get to leave early? aren’t we all the same department?” never mind that our deadline for the week has not yet been met (even tho it’s been amended to match the short week). My very own AC spends easily a third of her day socializing with other cow orkers but cannot understand why she doesn’t meet her quota . . .

Thanks for the tea explanations!

Lili, under NO circumstances should QD be allowed to look at the underwear available at the Vermont Country Store. I thought I wore granny panties, but these are the real thing. I forget why I was there, but I spent way too much time on that site yesterday. I did discover that they are making raisin biscuits again. Yum! Not sure that I really need 5 packages of them, though.

There’s a chance we’ll get sent home early, but what usually happens is that if they let people out early, our tiny group gets forgotten. (Early dismissal is either via phone or in person, never by email, which could be documented and used as leverage next year.)

rosie, as much as I dislike the term cow-irker, sometimes it just fits. Although the only cows I ever found irksome were weanlings penned overnight near our house.

Whew! My 11:00 meeting ran long, then I dashed to the dining facility for a salad, refreshed, updated and uploaded my morning report to the share site and crammed salad in my mouth at the same time.

I guess I could wish my boss would give me 59 minutes, but it probably won’t happen. Sigh…

The meeting today ran long because there were some issues being discussed that got some folks dander up.

You know what? Just in case I don’t make it back before tomorrow:
HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIBLIO!
and…
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

I’m sure I have some more to say, but I can’t remember what it is right now.

Rigs, how’s that paper coming along?

Why I love my boss, who is working from home today …

Me: So, what happens if I ask to leave early today?
Him: I say “Yes, go ahead.”
Me: You rock.

I’m outta here. Happy Turkey, or Happy Thursday to those of you outside the States, and
Happy Birthday, Bibs!
