Who’s arguing about Diana? I’d happily give the airheaded bint away for nothing, although arguably chasing her into the tunnel was the best thing the Frogs ever did…
LiLi, if you can get what those 'Murricans call “heavy cream”, you can make your own clotted cream:
2 cups heavy cream
Cook cream in top of double boiler over simmering water until reduced by about half. It should be the consistency of butter, with a golden “crust” on the top.
Transfer, including crust, to bowl. Cover and let stand 2 hours, then refrigerate at least 12 hours.
Stir crust into cream before serving. Keep unused portions refrigerated, tightly covered, for up to 4 days.
Two of our players are brothers, and their parents are in town for the weekend. Very, very nice people - Mom is determined that she is going to get the paintings her boys did. She will be back in Canada before the auction ends, but she’s going to have her boys sponsor families bid for her. I asked her if she was going to stick them on the 'fridge… It’s kind of a shame because I was thinking about bidding on one of them, but I won’t bid against a parent. That’s bad form.
“Rottwieler?” I thought it was “Charlie and his loyal steed.”
I got up this morning and went to feed SIL’s dogs. She should be back this afternoon. I will have saved her at least $240 by feeding the dogs and I am willing to bet she does not offer to even give me gas money. The only reason I don’t say no is because the bassett gets sick every time she is boarded. It’s just not fair to her, and SIL won’t look around for another boarding facility now that she has suckered me in for free.
My birthday is next week, and I have a sinking feeling Mr. SCL has forgotten again. I had asked for the kittycat mary jane shoes. He did order them - a size larger than I wear. I had to send them back. So I will be lucky to get a card, and I doubt his sisters will remember. I know a birthday isn’t a big deal when you’ve had 45 of them before, but still…
Am back from library. All I can say is either I am crazy (and that is possible) or I work with some of the tighest wound people, ever. And I thought I was intense. Jeepers.
Off to take Simon to the vet, if he can fit in the carrier. Rabies shot time.
Happy Day After, everybody! And Happy Friday to the non-Americans!
Wow - I’ve been busy busy busy… We had 9 for dinner around 4:00 pm yesterday. I brined a turkey! It was wonderful.
I’ve been sitting on my butt most of the day. I got up at 9:00 am, and took a nap around noon, after eating some leftover turkey. I think that tryptophan stuff is deadly.
Mr Rebo (henceforth known as That Crazy Man) has been out shopping all day. He got up at the ungodly hour of 4:30 to go SHOPPING! There ain’t no way in hell you could get me out in those Black Friday crowds. He says people pitched TENTS in the parking lot of Best Buy, AND Sears. Absolutely not worth it to me.
I ventured to the maul last year for a pair of black leather cowboy boots. No way was I going out in that mess again this year. I don’t like to go anywhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas; all the little old ladies in their ancient Cadillacs and Volvos driving 15 mph and ignoring stop signs make me crazy. For some reason they only seem to be out this time of year.
I have a pan of beads in the oven and a bracelet set up to bead. Other than that I have been very non-productive today.
rigs and BooFae you’re just playing ping-pong to entertain me, right? I’ll have some tea, too. As long as there’s scones.
BibKitty, I’m hearing that Twilight Zone music and it’s scaring me.
Glad it was quiet at the hospital yesterday, rigs; and sorry you had to work today. Maybe all library people are intense (which means you fit right in…)? Actually, I know scads of librarians and they seem to have quite varied personalities, so I’m pretty sure that’s not it.
I refuse to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. In fact, I tend to shop strategically during the entire holiday season. I try to go to the least popular shopping centers/areas I know, preferably during dinner or VERRRRRY early on a Saturday morning.
It’s been beautiful today. I only had to work till 4:00, because the one employee I had who was working till around 5 asked to work through her lunch. I was ever so glad. Didn’t really get much done today, but I did make it through a couple of items that I wouldn’t have otherwise completed.
Now I’m all motivated for finishing my clean-up activities. Little brother is coming back next weekend with children; I’d like to have all kinds of stuff cleaned up, thrown out and generally organized before then. Should be doable if I’m a good girl this weekend.
Our Thanksgiving dinner was lovely. We spent it with family friends who are always very welcoming and laid back. Also, the food there is always delish. Of course, by the time we got home, we were both very sleepy. That tryptophan is a wonderful thing. I slept right through the night.
Speaking of which: time for dinner. Yay for Thanksgiving leftovers!
I don’t have TG leftovers. This is probably a good thing.
I have been somewhat productive at work today. I finally finished my officially directed and mandated NO FEAR training. What a PITA! The stupid site wasn’t working right, so it took me twice as long. At any rate, it’s done. Now, I just have to wait for my STOOPIT certificate to come through e-mail.
We are being threatened with snow this weekend. I don’t really think it’ll hit big; if anything, it’ll be the wet, sloppy, chunky rain.
It has been deathly quiet here today. Only myself and two other division employees are here. My boss showed up around noon in civvies. I don’t know how long he’ll be here.
I still need to figure out what to cook for dinner.
Over in another thread, ivylass and I discussed that my mom and her MIL had the exact same reaction to our plan on brining turkeys - that they would be way too salty, and that we both were way too smug when they turned out great and the moms in question loved them.
Oh, look, it’s Rod Serling!
They showed that on the local news. People had been lining up since midlight.
People is crazy.
I am pooped! We left the house around 8, stopped for breakfast, then drove to FCD’s new office. We spent the better part of 5 hours and his office now looks great. The main color is a pale green called Cool Mist (I think - or Quiet Mist) and the trim is a darker green. All things considered, it looks pretty good. We got out of there by 3-ish and were home a bit after 4. Fed the critters, showered, changed, and went out to get something to eat because I was way too tired to cook.
Now we’re home relaxing. Soon we’ll crash. Tomorrow, we’re going to build the guest room closet - yay! There’s a big slice of chocolate cake waiting for me - dare I?? Maybe when I’m done my Toasted Almond. yummmmmmm
A friend of my daughter’s just came to get her to join a bunch of others to go skating. He said he was lined up at Best Buy at 3 AM and was # 623 in line.
I saw a story on the news today about a CompUSA in northern Virginia that opened at 9 pm last night with some deep specials – like a laptop for $150 – and had a thousand people lined up all orderly and friendly, when a bunch of about 50 people came up just before the doors opened and tried to jump the line. The TV station had their cameras there, and amazingly enough, while waiting for the cops, the store manager, armed with nothing but his powers of persuasion (and, of course, the keys to the door of the store!) got everyone calmed down and the line-jumpers to the back of the line where they belonged. It was actually rather impressive. For a bunch of insane idiots, that is.
We had a lovely turkey dinner yesterday and then spent the rest of the day in heavenly post-turkey doldrums. And today we have done even less. It’s been lovely.
I’m now off to crawl in bed early and catch up on my sleep. Not that I need to, but I can’t think of anything else to do that requires zero energy, which is about all I have right now.
I am, however, all agog to hear about today’s skivvies shopping!
No shopping for me - I slept til 11am - mmmmmmm:) - I just got back from an evening of board games and chocolate cake at a friend’s house. The cake was too chocolatey for my tastes Put the pitchforks down! I’m entitled to my opinion! nyah! We mostly played Apples to Apples and at one point 6 of my 7 cards were
The Top of A Rollercoaster
Gravity
An Operation
Dr Kevorkian
A Morgue
Funerals
the 7th card
The Scene Of The Crime
could probably fit in between the first and second one, but I thought it was a nice and logical progression
BooFae - are you in a minority? I thought your whole freakin country adored Diana. At least that’s the impression we got over here. Or would have rather seen Chuck marry Camilla 20-something years ago instead?
Rosie - Apples to Apples is one of my favorite games! I play every time I get the chance.
SIL was supposed to be back in town tonight, but I couldn’t contact her either at home or on her cell, so I went over and fed the puppydogs. I’m sleepy now after a bowl of dressing with gravy, so I’m off to bed.
Not content to awaken me by walking on my head, Miss Brandy tried a new trick this morning. She was attempting to open the door to the smallest bedroom. But she’s short and she lacks opposable thumbs, so she was reduced to banging against the door. In a dark, quiet house, that’s quite a racket!
But I was up anyway and thinking about starting my day, even tho it was just 5:30. And that’s what I did. Bernie had her morning constitutional (it smelled funny outside - I couldn’t decide if it was skunk or burned coffee) then I tossed a load of towels into the washer. I got to thinking that we may not be able to build the closet today, as someone left our ladder and 2-step stool in his newly painted office. Dunno - we’ll discuss.
Meanwhile, he’s still crashed and I’m contemplating a breakfast of that leftover slice of chocolate cake. Or the peach streusel pie. Decisions, decisions…
Rosie, I’m very much in a minority - apparently the whole of the rest of the country regarded Di as some kind of saint. I never saw past the barely-educated bimbo with an eating disorder and an inability to stand up for herself. Oh, and then there was the adultery issue. No way is Charles the father of the younger son - he’s the image of James Hewitt. I kid you not.
Despite rumours that the entire country was numb with grief and shocked to the core over her death and funeral etc, it wasn’t entirely true. A friend from the US rang me horribly early that morning to tell me she’d died, and my best response was the give her an ear-bending for waking me up at such an unearthly hour. Call me callous if you want, but for some of us the royal family has absolutely no attraction. It’s outmoded, way too expensive and a drain on our resources. Our Repulic Organisation is growing! Woohoo!
And today is the day to shop for skimpies! I’m so excited!
