How I Started My New Year

My wife brewed coffee for us, made raisin toast, and brought me a Mimosa!

We had the champagne from last night, and since we were unable to finish it, we set it aside for Mimosas this morning. Nice way to start the New Year.

It wasn’t a party-hearty night for us. We kicked back, watched some videos, then the countdown to midnight, then an old movie. Oddly enough, the next-door neighbour’s teenage daughter’s party wasn’t the noise problem such affairs usually are. Guess they got too drunk too early, and were unable to scream profanities on the front lawn at 2:00 a.m., as they usually do. So we could get some sleep, and wake up at a decent hour this morning.

A Mimosa was indeed a nice way to start New Year’s Day. How did you start your New Year?

Woke up some time in the afternoon with a freakish hangover, with Bonsai Girl, who crashed into my apartment drunk as a skunk at five in the morning and promptly passed out, next to me. Spent the time from then until now (19:30 in my time zone) hooked up to a constant supply of coffee, trying to reboot my brain. Going back to work tomorrow.

In short, it couldn’t be better! Happy new year to all!

I woke up, ate dried fruit, diet pepsi, and garlic toast, and, because snow shovels are sold out in town, I used my garden shovel to remove a foot of snow from the driveway. Then I counted the local birds, ascertaining that birds tend to be less active than usual in bad weather, and went back in for more diet pepsi.

As the weather is bothering me a great deal and we will probably get more of it, this afternoon I plan a pity party.

I woke up around noon, and had a coffee and toasted English muffin with raspberry jam, which I ate while my cat watched me from his comfy shoebox on the kitchen table. Today will be spent in my room, packing for my (hopefully imminent) move to the States. When I get frustrated or sick of sorting stuff, I’ll be catching up on interesting threads here.

Woke up, did my hair and nails, saved the world from terrorists, supervised the next great epic romance…
Okay, fine, I woke up, had some leftover Chinese, and finished off The Hunting of the Snark. Happy?

Woke up, lay there awhile until the bladder and the dog insisted both be attended to. Couldn’t go back to sleep, so up to make tea. Had a decent breakfast (2 eggs, 2 turkey sausage rounds, 2 pieces of toast with a teeensy bit o’ margarine) and a pot of tea. Admired house I cleaned yesterday. Vowed to keep house clean and tidy for the next 364 days. Put laundry on. Trimmed dog’s nails.

It’s excitin’ around here, I tell ya! Now I’m surfing as the laundry tumbles dry, and soon… wait for it… the dishwasher will be run! Then, when the hot water’s recovered, it will be shower time!

Envy me my exciting New Year’s Day.

I’m sorta on a diet now, too, as usual, so in a while I will eat some fruit and vegetables to balance out the protein and bread.

Actually, let’s go wild and have some fruit now. Oooooh!

After a somewhat fitful night’s sleep, woke up over an hour ago and checked my weight on the scale I got for Christmas. I was hoping to lose two pounds but I wasn’t really trying as hard as I could have. Still, 8/10ths of a pound ain’t bad for just one week.

Now I’m sitting here in front of the computer, drinking Diet Coke and knowing I need to get out and take a walk but seeing that it’s drizzling outside. I’m not really feeling motivated but will do it anyway.

The good news to start this year with is that I can now walk two miles without stopping, when just this last summer two blocks seemed like a big chore. Woohoo me!

I took a bus to a friend’s house for dinner. Very quiet night…playing with the kids, eating, playing games.

Afterwards, the bus dropped me off 20 blocks from my house at 11:57 p.m. I walked home amidst all the fireworks the neighbors let off.

It was really cool
