New Year plans?

Oddly, I don’t see a thread for this yet.

NYE: a good walk, traditional fondue for dinner and maybe go see the zoo lights. We don’t stay up late or go see fireworks, so that’s it.

NYD: traditional biscuits and gravy for breakfast, then likely a long nap to sleep it off and another hour walk.

Tomorrow I’m making wine-braised oxtails (something I’ve never made nor eaten), ham hocks and black-eyed peas, collard greens, and cornbread. Other than that, nothing is planned.

You don’t cook like a damyankee.

I’m a native of Southern California!

And my mom was from Arkansas. (OK, she was very young when her family moved to SoCal. Nevertheless. :stuck_out_tongue: )

going downtown to watch the Red Wings lose, then hopefully be back before all of the drunks hit the road.

Going to a local casino. Probably just play slots. They don’t have a hotel, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are full, but the wife doesn’t want to drink tonight so she’ll do the driving. Still considering staying home anyway because the temperature will be 0 by midnight, getting colder overnight. Colder than no degrees is pretty damn cold!

We might have a peep at the Ring of Fire and Hope.

I’ll probably watch fireworks for a few minutes.

We’re not going anywhere tonight or tomorrow. I can’t recall the last time we did something on NYE - usually we’re asleep long before midnight. Plus it’s just too cold to leave the house! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just the usual around here, errands have all been run, so the three of us and the dogs are hunkered down. We will probably have an early dinner, I’m doing a knock off sweet and sour chicken. Later we’ll play some games, put out some snacks and have some beers. Other than getting the dogs out, it’s just too cold to be outdoors. We will most likely be up to ring in the new year, but who knows.

We’re staying home tonight (normal for us). Will arise tomorrow and start the fire and prep for the traditional New Year’s meal (ham, cornbread, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, etc.).

Shoving appetizers in my face with my family (wife & kids), watching old-school Batman episodes and the latest season of Star Wars Rebels. And drinking wine.

Joining friends at a Chinese food buffet, then we’re all heading to a local casino. Tomorrow, no plans; but probably plenty of TV football.

Slept until 10 this morning after going to bed sick last night at 8. Watching “Godless” with the wife. Eating chili, and surely going to go to bed very early after trying to libate on cold medicine.

Tomorrow: hopefully feel better, finish “Godless,” play it by ear from there.

Eta: oh yeah…And blackeye peas tomorrow too.

It’s too damn cold here to do much outdoors, so I’m thinking I’ll stay in, and maybe listen to some music or else stream a New Year’s celebration on my computer. I do plan to stay up until midnight, whatever I do.

Went to the movies this afternoon, then picked up Chinese. Me and the kitty are watching bad tv. The temp is about 9F with wind chills of negative ten.

Staying in all day watching every episode of Monk, which has just become available for streaming on AmazonPrime. Don’t like to go out on NYE any more. Too many crazies on the road. There will be lots of illegal fireworks in the neighborhood, so I’ll be holding my too-big-to-be-a-lapdog-dog Sweetie on my lap.

Tomorrow going to my stepson’s for snacks and hanging out. In the daytime–I’ll be home before dark.

We are boring. We’ve been prepping for tomorrow’s D&D group and watching Homicide Hunter. I’m going to work on my fiction and clean the kitchen. We went to a holiday party yesterday so I guess that counts.

Not only did the Wings not lose, we got to see a Penguins fan (obviously after too many beverages) being hauled out in handcuffs by the Detroit Police.

hopefully he was wearing a Crosby jersey.

Ate a plate full of delicious appetizers and goodies and I will be snuggled in my bed, reading a book, by 9:00. I’ll try to keep my eyes open for a few minutes but I’ll likely be sawing logs by 9:30.

Happy New Year, Dopers!

I spending NYE on the dope (of course). I have CNN on, Anderson and Andy! Does anybody think they are a couple, or is it just me??
