I am quite ignorant of the culture. So, in say, Qatar, UAE, or Egypt, how is this handled? Is it outlawed? Is it like going to a ‘Tittie Bar’ in the States or what? Is it by invitation only? I’m coming from Utah, where they tried and failed to legislate ‘Granny Panties’ in strip clubs.
Just to set the bar, there was nothing in that video that I found offensive, while at the same time, I was never particularly aroused.
Well, when I was in the UAE, I never saw belly dancing nor even places that offered such. In another majority-Muslim country, Malaysia, belly dancing was provided as entertainment in the hotels’ non-western restaurant/bar combos and no restrictions on entry–there were even little kids with their families during the show.
Could you provide a link to your story about Utah and the granny-panties proposed legislation?
You must know that the Belly Dancing is foreign to the essentially all of the region, not native, and is something mostly made up for the foriegners who expect it, although it is a nativized dance for Egypt and the Lebanon. In the Gulf you will not see it outside of the hotels or the clubs for foreigners mostly, the Gulf has its own dances. It is not illegal but it is not very respectable.
But it is not banned. Anyway for almost all the region is it a tourist thing and will not be seen outside of the tourist hotels and the tourist restaurants.
No, Egyptians have done it and do do it, as it became a popular form in the cities for a period, but it has become more rare and unfavored in the last decades.
