How is the changing media landscape going to affect the election?

Eight years ago, I still had cable. I watched the conventions (both of them), I watched the news, I saw Obama and McCain and Palin and Biden give speeches, I saw political ads.

Now, today, I largely watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, and clips on Facebook, read stories on Politico, etc. I don’t have cable, rarely watch any over-the-air television. I didn’t watch any of the RNC live, and likely won’t watch any of the DNC live. I only caught the highlights (lowlights, rather) of the Pubs’ Party, and will probably watch clips of the big names at the Dem’s Party. I probably won’t see any ads in their native setting (no TV and use an ad blocker).

Most of what I see is shared media, and I’ll be honest, even as a Hillary supporter, most of what I click on is Trump. I had a hard time thinking of Hillary’s campaign message recently, while Trump’s is locked in my brain (“Make America Great Again.”) I heard Hillary’s campaign message “Stronger together” when my wife and I were listening to the Clinton-Kaine rollout; my wife noted it is a Weight Watchers’ slogan.

I fear that the Clinton campaign hasn’t figured out how to get their message out in a media landscape that has changed very drastically in the past eight years. Trump is running a campaign in a era of media clips being shared on Facebook. Clinton may be running a campaign the way they did in years past-- television ad buys, Internet ad buys, speechifying with the assumption that people will see the speech on the news, etc.

ETA: Dang it, why can’t I edit thread titles? That should say “affect.” Have mercy on me, Moderator People!

Title changed per the OP.
