How large is your computer monitor?

I currently use a a laptop with a 12.1" screen. I saw a 19" flat panel at wal-mart for 200 dollars. I am thinking about buying it, and setting it up to use when I am home. It would be incredible, I would have a monitor the same size as my TV.

Soo, how big is your computer monitor? Would you rather have a larger/smaller one? Why?

Two 21" widescreens, and a 19" standard dimension, and I’m always thinking about bumping that up. I program for a living, the more documents I can have open at once, the better.

I have three screens. It’s a laptop, so of course only one screen goes with me wherever I go with the thing, the other two remain at work. (I also have another external at my apartment).

Main screen (built-in TFT): 17" diagonal, 1680 x 1050
Big Sony Trinitron CRT: 20" official (might be less “usable”), 1280 x 1024
El Cheapo Aux Flatscreen: 17", 1024 x 768

At the apartment:

Elderly Sony 15" Trin: 15" official (14" usable?), 1024 x 768

I’m only running one at the moment, my 24" Dell Flatscreen. Running 1920x1200.

I love the monitor.

At work I use a 21" CRT that I used to span alongside the 24", when I had them both at home. Gave me a workspace about a 34" wide workspace, a little over 3500 pixels wide.

I have a 19 inch flat panel at home and I can’t really deal with smaller monitors anymore. I have a 17" at work and it just isn’t cutting it. I was having real problems today working on a project because it is too small. I am going to have to tell them to get me a new one. I would probably like an even bigger one but I haven’t ever used one enough to get used to it.

On our main computer, we have a 19" flat screen, and it’s nice. But my work space, on the other side of the house (we have both sides of a duplex) is an elderly 14". Surprisingly, the tiny one doesn’t bother me.

20 inch wide screen lcd + 21 inch CRT 4:3 aspect.

I will never go back to single screen. Dual monitors is just amazingly useful.

Preach it!

With a 19" CRT and a 17" LCD, i don’t have as much screen area as you, but it’s enough for my needs. I couldn’t go back to just 1.

At home, just a 19" Panel for now on my computer. A pair of 19" tubes on the kids computers, a 17" Panel on the Family Room PC that also uses our 37" Panasonic 1080p LCD as a secondary or mirror display. My wifes laptop is a 15" panel.
I will eventually move up to a 23" or 27" wide screen panel.

At work I use a 17" panel and a 17" Dell Triniton Tube. I need the dual display to program, I do not need it at home.

I have a 21" CRT (So heavy!) and a… um, smaller one that I don’t ever use. It’s in storage somewhere. My computer desk is small, shut up.

19" flat panel.

I was at a computer show in 2002 when I found a vendor selling refurbished monitors who wanted $200 for a 21" ViewSonic. I figured it was risky, going with a refurb like that, but if I got two years out of it I’d be happy.

Here we are, more than four years later, and this thing still looks beautiful.

19 inch CRT, but my next big purchase is going to include a 24" Dell widescreen (as well as a computer to go with it).

Right now I’m using a buddy’s Dell 21". Eventually I plan to buy either one of Dell’s 24" (I love working on those behemoths), a pair of 21"'s, or maybe… 2 24"'s. Depends on how Dells deal’s are.

Man, I never should have started this thread! Now that I’ve heard about everyone else’s setup, I want the monitor more than ever!

Who did you think would reply other than computer lovers?

Tell the truth, you want to give yourself an excuse to buy it.

Jim

I think you caught me.

About 32cm x 24cm

I’ve got dual 17 inch monitors. At work I have a 21 inch. I much prefer dual my dual monitors at home, though I want to move up to dual 19 (at least) inch flat panels.

If I were really loaded I’d get one of [Digital Tigers: Search Results]these. The 30" one.

Okay- I have a 19 inch flat screen (wide) and love it. It’s for home. Now I know it was better than the 17 inch, the 15 inch, and the 14 inche before that.

But for home use, is there a need to go above it? My eyes aren’t that bad yet.
