My upstairs neighbor is afraid of his own shadow and is the most overly cautious person I have ever met. This, despite his being a rock-solid athlete, ex-wrestler, built like a fireplug, muscular, and a current high school coach. He appears to have no reason to fear anyone, and yet he is fearful about all manner of perceived threats. He is most neurotic (in my highly regarded - by me - personal opinion) when it comes to bugs and environmental matters. We have discovered some carpenter ants in the building, and he’s terrified of them. I told him they’re not after him - don’t inject poison - etc. but he’s really worried about his 2 year old. Says there may be allergy problems. I think he’s majorly overreacting. After all, if you sit on one, or squeeze one, they’ll probably bite you with their jaws, but they’re not out to get you, and I don’t *think * a person would be allergic to them. But, what do I know? Dopers?
**Buildings ** are allergic to carpenter ants.
Humans can be allergic to their bites as well, but it’s pretty rare. Hoever, for fifty bucks, your neighbor can buy an allergy test through these people.
However, this site says carpenter ants don’t inject any poisons or venom and won’t really hurt you.
