Now that Mr Schwarzenegger is no longer governor he is open to going back to Hollywood?
So let’s speculate, will he do so? Would you go see him in movies now? He was one of the highest paid leading men before he left to become governor, if he does return it’ll be interesting to see how much salary he can command.
I have to imagine that being a governator is fairly stressful. If I were him, I’d probably take a few years off and relax, at any rate.
The main issue is that I think he would need to recreate his image if he came back. He was never good enough as an actor to get by on that alone, and regardless of how big and muscular he may be, I don’t think he’ll look quite right as a bulky superhero at his age. He really needs some extra personality and the acting chops to sell it to get back into acting as a leading man.
I think he could do True Lies 2 or any other comedic role, but I’m not sure about anything else. He’d probably be better off to work his way into some sort of quasi-ambassadorial role, like Bono, and otherwise play a lot of golf, waiting for any scripts to come by that just perfectly work for him given his age, accent, and talent.
I don’t really know about the quality of his acting. I don’t care much for action films, (I saw the Terminator and that was it and he was OK. His comic roles I didn’t like at all. I don’t think he has a flair for comedy at all.
Arnold has a reputation for having an ego, so if it is true, I can’t see him sitting back and doing nothing outside of Hollywood, unless he plans to run for another California office? Was he popular enough to pull of being a Senator from California?
It’s a shame national politics (Senator, House of Rep, Prez) is restricted to native born Americans. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a citizen at least 30 years. That should be long enough.
He could do like Jerry Brown and run for governor again in a few years.
When you get out, Mr. Governor, please plan for Commando 2. The world has been suffering from a severe drought of corny puns, and you are the solution.
I don’t see him going back into movies beyond maybe a few cameos. He’s 63 - he’s not going to go back to doing the kind of action hero movies that made him famous. And while he did branch out a little into other types of roles, he was never that highly regarded as an actor. Let’s face it, he’s not Robert DeNiro.
My guess is that he’ll kick back and write a book or two. It’ll be significant if he writes his autobiography - that’s usually a sign in politics that you’re retiring. If he writes a general political book instead, he’s probably thinking about another political office.
The Expendables 2, leading a rival team of expendable former action stars, would be a natural (and AWESOME!) fit for his first movie back. You know Sly is already begging him to do it.
I remember someone’s comment about Clint Eastwood back in the days of his spaghetti westerns: “He has all of the emotional expressions down pat from A to B”.
Of course, one could reply that Arnold’s emotional expertise (at least as he expressed them in his “Conan the Barbarian” movies") never actually got to “B”.
IIRC, it was said by Dorothy Parker about Kate Hepburn.
My estimation of Clint’s talent went up when I heard an interview with him talking in his normal voice: it’s high and faint, and probably would have gotten a smaller kid beat up a lot. His menacing whisper was a brilliant actor’s way of working with his voice and iconic image. (This is all in addition to his accomplishments as a director, and his not-bad-at-all jazz piano playing).
IIRC, it’s something Dorothy Parker said about Katharine Hepburn.
As for Ah-nuld, I honestly can’t believe he’s accomplished half of the stuff he’s set out to do, and can’t bring myself to figure against him doing something just as implausible equally astonishingly.
True Lies 2 would particularly work well, because conveniently Eliza Dushku has the physical chops to be the primary protagonist letting Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Tom Arnold take back seat, yet still significant, roles.
