How long can someone stand upright?

Maybe I’m a bad Googler, but I’ve been searching for 30 minutes trying to figure out the world record for standing upright. Anybody know how long someone can stand upright? Doesn’t have to be motionless, but can’t involve sitting down.

It’s not just idle curiosity; I was wondering how long a jailer can force someone to stand before it’s considered torture.

That must be very uncomfortable for you. The ACLU often takes on cases like yours.

David Blaine basically stood up for over 61 hours while encased in ice if the stunt is to be taken at face value.

Wiseass.

Actually, I have found that the world record for standing on one leg is 76 hours. I just can’t find the record for 2 legs.

I’m sure David Blaine is working on this very problem right now for his next special: “David Blaine: Standing Still.”

The record I’m remembering from a '70s-era Guiness Book may have been broken by now, but at the time it was held by a British (or other Allied) POW held by the Japanese during WWII. As punishment, the man was ordered to stand without a rest for some ungodly amount of time.

So it’s going to be a retrospective of his career, then?

Standing in a jail cell, deprived of sleep and presumably food and water… I give it a week, two weeks tops before the person collapses to the floor.
