How Long Did you Hold out against Covid?

Tapping out of the uninfected bus today. Not especially sick, but fingers crossed I stay that way.

Cross-posting from the 'Raffe.

I’m starting to get a scratchy sore throat and to feel slightly crummy.

For those of you who’ve had Covid, how did it start out? Google seems to say that fever and body aches are the most prominent early symptoms. So far, I don’t have those. But I’m testing in the garage tonight at home before going inside anyway.

I haven’t had it, but a lot of friends started with a sore throat. Testing send like a good idea, but often doesn’t catch early covid. If you test negative and continue to feel crummy, treat again in 2-3 days.

When I had Covid, my symptoms also started with a sore throat. I had a very mild case that I thought was just a cold at first.

MY aunt had it twice … Once before anyone knew what it was and then she caught it again the same time I did right before everything was locked down due to my idiot in laws idiot mother having it and giving it to everyone at Xmas… because she didn’t believe it was more than a cold

Cripes. Thanks for the input, guys. I’m trying to remember where I was two days ago - inside a supermarket or two, and also in a restaurant (which was cavernous and completely empty except for us and a waitress).

My brother, fully vaccinated, recently went to a music venue to hear a band. Two days later he woke up feeling awful, with a sore throat. He felt like crap for 3 days, but never developed a cough. The fourth day he felt much better, but didn’t test negative until day 8.

I tested negative last night before coming inside, but our tests were on the cusp of their (extended) expiration. I’m having Mr. brown buy some fresh tests today, along with some cans of chicken soup.

Feeling crappy with a bad sore throat. Hope it’s just a cold.

Using a just-bought, fresh kit, I tested again this afternoon. Negative again. Yay!

My husband is 71 and I didn’t want to pass it on to him. I’m 66 myself, for that matter.

I started with a scratchy throat, next day body aches, next day felt like death on a stick, then a week of feeling like I had strep throat.

Fully boosted and repeatedly exposed on the job, I had been confident that I’d already had it with minimal symptoms. Based on my one bad day, I shudder to think what it would have been like without the vax.

Finally got it 2 weeks ago. Someone came into work and passed it around. I had no symptoms except being congested and nasal drip. But did a home test and was positive. Took a few weeks off and worked from home.

Haven’t had it…yet.

Bumping this a year later, and, man, when I look back at how cavalier I was: “as far as I know,” I said, as if to say that I hadn’t even noticed it, if I’d had it, which, to the best of my knowledge, I hadn’t; I just shrugged as casually as I grinned, as if I hadn’t a care in the world.

Oh, What A Difference A Year Makes, is what I’d say now, if that had changed, which it hasn’t.

I have finally got it, after more than three years of having somehow avoided being infected. I am taking Paxlovid. So far it feels like a bad cold: sore throat, some coughing, and a stuffy nose. No fever so far, and I can still taste and smell.

Exactly the same here except it was Aug 12 when I started feeling it and I self-tested positive on Aug 13.

Also, I did not take Paxlovid but rather Molnupiravir. Doctor said it had been too long since they had assessed my kidneys (which I have every reason to think are perfectly fine) so instead went for the somewhat less ideal Molnupiravir. I started treatment on Sunday evening and, as I am writing this on Tuesday morning, I feel much better. I did have a minor fever and it broke in the wee hours this morning.

It was never really bad at all. I mean, I was sick, it sucked for sure, but I have had much worse over my life. Dunno why…the strain or that I have had four vaccinations since this all started or just lucky or the molnupiravir.

Still scary to see that positive show up before you know how it will play out.

Wife and I made it to last December. We went to Japan - hadn’t seen her family for three years - and on the flight home, the guy across the aisle wasn’t wearing a mask and he was coughing for the entire flight. Wife and I were masked, but masks have their limits (and of course we took them off to eat and drink), and 13 hours of exposure was just too much. Two days after arriving home, the initial symptoms showed up, and about a week later we both tested positive. We had been working from home and getting our groceries delivered, so really no exposure since leaving the airport; we’re 99% sure it was the asshole on the plane that gave it to us.

We had booster shots a few weeks before leaving on the trip, and even with that, the symptoms were pretty unpleasant, like a really bad cold. Hate to think what it would have been like without the booster.

I may have had it in March last year. Symptoms were very mild and testing was negative. So I’m not sure if I caught it or not. Just this week, they said in Canada only 75% contracted it. I would have thought a much higher number, especially considering I know so many who did. Still, I may be part of that 25% who did not. Unfortunately, they are predicting an uptick in the fall with yet another new variant.

I got it the first time June 2022 and then again after Thanksgiving. Mild symptoms. Thankful I had all the boosters.

Then end of Jan 2023 I developed a persistent cough and breathing problems. Needed Albuterol nebulizer treatments. That lasted a month and eventually became pneumonia. I’m doing much better since leaving the hospital. I no longer get nebulizer treatments.

I did get a BiPap for sleep apnea. It was diagnosed while I was hospitalized.

I tested negative during that time. But I’ve never smoked or had any breathing problems before. I’m convinced the respiratory problem came from Covid.

A co worker broke my streak. Just tested positive.

So far not too bad. Cough, and a touch of a sore throat. General icky feeling.

Until early February, when a PCR test I did came back positive (I was in a govt testing program, and that was the last test they were doing as the funding was ending). If it wasnt for that, I might have dismissed it as a cold.
Now, I’m feeling cold symptoms, and hoping it’s just a cold.
