Without getting into politics of abortion, which is pretty hard not to do, I was wondering how long does the procedure take.
Let’s assume it’s a woman who is in good health and in the first trimester.
How long would it take from time she enters the office till she is able to leave. Again, I am assuming no complications and good health of the woman and 1st trimester
Thanks

I don’t remember but I googled it and google says the procedure is only about 10-15 minutes and the whole appointment is about 1 hour. Sounds about right.
About thirty minutes from beginning sedation to ready to leave with a companion. Not counting paperwork, questions, counseling, etc.
John Irving’s “The Cider House Rules” is an excellent read, and covers this subject in great detail, from the standpoint of a rural doctor in the early 20th century. And the whole procedure does sound like it could quite neatly fit into 30 minutes.
The movie was pretty good, but the book is better—I just happened to be listening to that book as I was on the road the past few days on business.
This is a work of fiction, but it does seem well researched.
I had an emergency D&C which is very similar to an abortion. The procedure itself took 10-15 minutes. I imagine due to the paperwork, counseling, etc, you could count on 2-3 hours just to be sure that you didn’t have a reaction or other complication.
That’s pretty quick. Thanks for the info
Don’t forget about the chemical abortificants. Those only take as long as it takes to swallow the pill (plus a day or two for processing).
