How long does it take to receive a checkbook?

If you make a request to get a checkbook, how long does it usually take for your bank to send you one?

You get a starter one when you sign up. It only contains a couple checks. You can ask for them to print you a few more if they are required, before your regular ones with your information come in a couple weeks.

I got my checks from Walmart, they were cheap and it took three days to be mailed to my home.

Most places will also offer expedited shipping if you’re willing to pay the fee. When I was at the bank (about five years ago), it was $10 for overnight.

As HD mentions, you can also go to a branch and ask them to print you some counter checks. They don’t have your name and address printed on them (you write it in), but they’ll work fine for rent, bills, etc.

6 weeks for standard processing. Your bank can issue temporaries (my bank prints them on the spot with your routing number and address, but they only give you as many as you ask for, not a whole book).

By the way, if you are college student or live in a college town, many businesses are suspicious of checks beginning with “100” (it means you just opened a bank account, and at college that often includes “…for the first time” with the possibility of irreponsibility or simple confusion that implies.) Sometimes they will make you offer extra forms of ID or hassle you about them.

However, actually you can order checks to start at any number. Simply ask the bank to start at 500 or 1,000 when they issue the checks.

I work for a bank and this is way wrong. Banks use one of 2 or 3 major check manufacturers and regular shipping for each company is 7-10 days.

Oops, sorry. Its been a while.
