I went to the office and reapplied for a new card in my married name - now I’m just curious how long it takes to receive it. It wasn’t a replacement number or anything, just a new card with my married name on it.
(I know the sheet says two weeks, but I’m curious how long it really took for real cards to arrive).
Did you have to go to a social security office to fill out the form?
I had to go get mine at a social security office in Omaha, NE, and I think it was the same place where people picked up their social security checks or something. There was a morbidly obese women who made a big scene and when her sister tried to quiet her she would yell “I don’t give a fuck if everyone hears me!” over and over again. I wanted to die. Imagine the DMV only 100 times worse.
Last time I had to request one, it was sent to me within a week, but if you go to the Social Security office to request it, you can also request a form called a numinent that serves as proof you’ve done so. This document was sufficient for for the USAF recruitment office, so it should be good enough for most things you’d need the card for.
I had to get it replaced so I can apply for a driver’s license. (I was away from the country for many years - my license had expired and I’d lost the SS card.)
Took about a week for the new card to arrive, as I recall. Definitely less than 2 weeks.
