We moved into our house in January 2000. I painted a couple of rooms, and had some paint left over. I would like to paint a couple more rooms now, and we still have the leftovers from the 2000 painting. Is it still good, or should I take it to Home Depot and just have them match the color?
Like so many things … That depends.
Are they FULL cans? If so possibly OK. If in doubt HD will check it for you.
If less that 2/3 full or less … go to HD and get new fresh paint! You will find a thick skin over the 5 year old paint and ready for the recycle waste liquids collection.
It is poor economics to use questionable materials.
Don’t throw it away yet. You can take it in it to get a good match. But don’t use it. It’s too old. Even it was stored properly (which most DIYers know nothing of), it’s likely either seperated or spoiled. Either way it’s unusable. But, take it in to the store so they can get a good color match off inside of the lid.
