Up at 6:10, out at 6:30. Get up, let the dogs out, turn on the iron, shower, dry off, iron clothes, brush teeth, run fingers through my hair if I can’t find the comb, dress, call dogs in, leave. If I shower and iron the night before (in the winter the bathroom’s warmer at night) I can cut 10 minutes off that.
I’m surprised at all the people who can take a dump immediately upon waking. My body needs a couple hours, food and coffee before it’s ready to handle that sort of business.
-Shut off alarm after 3-4 snooze cycles, about 6:20.
-Pee.
-Shower, shave in shower.
-Brush hair.
-Brush teeth.
-Get dressed.
This is all finished by about 6:40 or 6:45.
-Head downstairs and eat a bowl of cereal.
-Put together a lunch for the day.
-Collect laptop bag, lunch bag, other various and sundry items.
Out the door by 7:00.
From starting the shower to putting on underwear, about 15 minutes. I shave in the shower, so that saves some time, but I turn around and waste it by meticulously drying every space between my toes (habit left over from Army days.)
Okay, here’s a little TMI, but not graphic. I am shocked no one else has mentioned it, however, as I don’t believe I’m the only to have to deal with this at least from time to time. Anyway, my average is approximately two- to two-and-a-half hours, at least four mornings a week. Here’s why…
My SO is a morning person, if you know what I mean, an in-the-shower morning person. So my routine is to wake up at approximately 4:30, use the toilet, shave, pluck my nose hairs, take a shower, dry off, brush my teeth, take shower with SO, take another shower alone, dry off, brush my teeth, comb my hair, get dressed and leave …no breakfast, coffee, time to read the newspaper, watch a movie???, or any of the other things you folks have mentioned. I’m usually out of the house by 7:00. No, I’m not complaining. It’s great. I know it would be better, however, if I were a “morning” person, which I’m not.
I’ve even purposely gotten up at 6:00 and tried to rush through everything, but that just makes me late for work. The only times I can get out in less than an hour is when she’s not feeling well or when I’m away on business.
Alarm 5:00 AM
Stare at the coffee table: 10 minutes
Brush teeth, use toilet: 15 minutes
Shower: 5 minutes
Dress and gather all things needed for work: 10-15 minutes.
On the road by 5:45.
Some the coffee table staring takes longer. Depends on how boring my day is likely to be whether it takes me longer to ramp up.
Re: Onomatopoeia’s post- I purposely left out the “morning person” activities as they occur before either of us leaves the bed. I do, however, find it interesting that you brush your teeth both before and after. And three showers every morning? Damn!
About 25 minutes from when I actually leave my bed to when I exit the front door, with peeing, shaving, showering, dressing, a really quick bite, and whatsoever else is necessary in between.
Unless I want to shower by 5am at the latest, my hair won’t be dry by 8am, so I shower at night. Peeing, taking care of teeth and face, putting on makeup & sunscreen, and brushing my hair takes about 20 minutes. Another 10 to get dressed and make lunch, and a half hour before that wondering why the hell I’m awake and trying to shake off my slow-zombie impersonation.
30 minutes to get out the door from the time I really wake up and get out of bed. I’ve always wanted to ask people who shower the night before how they do it, if I take a shower at night I still feel like I need one when I wake up mostly because it is the only way to get my hair to stop standing straight up.
15 minutes in the bathroom (micturate, brush teeth, shave, shower, brush hair, spray on deodorant). Maybe a bit more if it’s cold and I’m enjoying the warm water.
30 minutes from getting out of bed to getting out the door. I don’t know where those other 15 minutes go, since it only takes maybe 30-45 seconds to get dressed, and another 30-45 seconds for breakfast (= a glass of orange juice).
If I need to wash my hair, 1 hour 15 minutes. If I don’t, 45 minutes.
After reading the thread, apparently I take a long time. But I’m a slow waker and it takes a while to start moving quickly.
My alarm goes off (for the second time) at 5:25am, and my bathroom/shower routine takes around 20 minutes, then another 10 to 15 minutes for making the bed, dressing, and putting on makeup.
After that it’s about 30 to 45 minutes for breakfast and reading the newspaper, 5 minutes for brushing teeth and finding shoes, and I’m usually out the door by 6:45.
