How long for a sprained wrist

Okay, here’s the thing. I have a sore wrist, and it’s getting worse. I have been to a sports medicine doctor and he diagnosed it as “sprained scaphiod ligament” he prescribed anti-inflammatories (which I couldn’t get) and a resting wrist brace - which I wear, as recommended when sleeping and when it hurts.

The thing is, it’s getting worse. It used to hurt only when I used my hand to push down on something with my wrist bent (like kneading bread). Now it hurts whenever I do many things, lifting Darby up, scratching my back etc. It has been sore for over three months, off and on. The other night it started throbbing so badly it woke me up. I can’t keep the brace or wrap it all the time because my skin actually reacts to the fabric and begins to burn and peel.

How long should this take to heal? I am bothered because I can’t do normal push ups, and I need to (I hate knuckle ones).

Let me clarify before all of you say “Go back to the doctor.”
I am going back to the doctor, I just wanted to know if it’s normal to take this long? My appointment won’t be first thing tomorrow and it really hurts.

Any experience with this?

And before anyone mentions it, I know one wrist is sore and my other arm is still making me angry in MPSIMS, the difference being the flu shot arm won’t hurt the day after tomorrow.

IANAD, of course.

Why couldn’t you get the anti-inflammatories? Maybe it’s, ummm, inflamed?

I know from my own experience that sprains can take what seems like approximately forever to heal, and a sprained area seems to re-injure easily, as if it now has a permanent extra vulnerability. Broken bones seem to heal more quickly and with fewer residual problems.

We obviously live in completely different worlds – I can’t imaging *needing * to do pushups!
