I lurked for close to a year before joining… this place intimidated the hell outta me.
Before signing up, I was a lurker since about 2004 or 5.
I’m with the others who lurked for over a year before joining. This place scared me a bit too.
I said 5, but if you count being a book-buying Cecil fan then I get 10+.
Lurked since when my college roommate showed me the dope in 2003.
Joined only recently w/ the help of Boozy, then the place went free. So :Shrug:
I found this place in…2004? I think it was 2004, but I don’t count that as my real start date since I didn’t even lurk much until my senior year of college in 2005, so that’s what I put down as my real start as a doper.
ETA: Looking at my join date, it *was *2004 that I first found this place. Still, I am not going to count much of those first few months.
I was on the old AOL board, so I checked 10 years or more. When I joined the Web-based board, I signed up as jseigle, then some time later re-registered under my current moniker.
6 and a half years. That’s longer than I’ve ever lived at a single address for!

I’m estimating 9 years, could be more. I lurked for a few years, then for a few years had a different account that I lost access to when I forgot the password to the email account assigned to it, then this one. I’m actually pretty sure now that it was in the 1990s that I first found the Dope…

I lurked for two years before joining. Come to think of it, I still pretty much only lurk.

Almost a year. I remembered reading Cecil’s column in the Austin Chronicle back when I lived in the Lone Star State. Did an internet search and stumbled upon this place(?).
There’s always such a wide variety of topics and personalities that it quickly became my favorite forum/message board.
9 years. I vying for the lowest *PPD award.

Sorry, El Gui. My hubby DeathLlama has been on the SDMB since 1999 and has fewer than 300 posts. Might even be fewer than 250. But good (lack of) effort!
