I have heard that over 200,000 people live in the Manhattan alone, so what is the number for the entire US?
The U.K. doesn’t even rank in the top ten nations from which people in the U.S. have immigrated. I can’t find the exact figures just now, but I think 200,000 is about the number of British immigrants in the entire U.S. I suspect that about 5,000 British immigrants live in Manhattan.
Are you sure, because in this book, ’ how to alienate and lose freinds’ says that there are 200,000 people there.
I presume you’re talking about How to Lose Friends and Alienate People by Toby Young?
I think he’s not exactly the sort of guy to let a dull fact spoil a good story, but it would be interesting to get the Straight Dope with a cite to back it up.
The U.S. Census estimates that in 2000 there were 613,000 UK born people living in the USA. Down from 640,000 in 1990. (See p. 12)
BTW, that’s a pdf file so you’ll adobe.
