How many Canadians here..please raise your hand and say "eh"

So she’s actually Swiss?

Nope, she’s from Québec. Thus the French-Canadian accent.

I get it now, eh.

Wow, how desperate must one be to consider the Eurovision Song Contest something worth to change your nationality over… I’m surprised Canada took her back! I would have said, “hey, YOU wanted to become Swiss, now stay there!”. It’s not like Switzerland would ATTACK Canada over it

But am I wrong in thinking that most French Canadians do NOT have such thick accents? The ones I encountered hardly has an accent at all! FWIW, in Moosie’s case (she sent me a voice file once), it is VERY hard to tell for me that she’s not an English Canadian. Same goes for the ones I met IRL. I am able to tell a Canuck from a Yankee, however

OK, enough Dutch interference in this All-Maple Leaf thread, eh??

tomndebb: NW Ontario is a state of mind.

It’s not just Canadians, eh. It’s also very common in Edinburgh, although some people here, eh, add it in the moddle of, eh, sentences and not just at the end.

Canada, Edinburgh - is there anywhere else?

Hey, Wally. I wish I could afford an new heart like you. BTW…I’m gonna be in the old neighbourhood in April. If you wanna get together and watch me drink a beer (since I assume you are still recovering) lemme know.

I’m proud to be Canadian!
We’re awfully nice to strangers,
Our manners be our curse.
It’s cool in many ways to be Canadian,
It isn’t that we’re better,
It’s just that we’re less worse.

My fate keeps getting in the way of my destiny.

Grandparents born in Canada, Quebec and I-don’t-know-where. I live an hour from the border. Close enough?

Cold, Moosie saves that french accent for very special occasions

We are, each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another

Navan, Ontario here (20+ minutes from downtown Ottawa).

My mother is French-Canadian (Ontario French, not to be confused with the Quebec French). She married a limey (England, english). Has yet to lose her french accent, only it’s not a thick. Dad gets a hoot out of bugging her - “going to get my hairs cut”.

Celine Dion: her speaking voice has a stronger accent than the singing one.

I had to bump this to the top, it was looking all lonely on page 2 and the american post was at the top

Bedboy, stop linking those images in here. The source site isn’t excactly speedy… sooner or later, no one will answer this thread when it is impossible to load!

Try and restrict image use to a minimum, i.e. only when it DOES serve a purpose.
