How many cats do you have?

Three: Turk, 11, Magnolia 5, Widget 2. All three were rescued and given to me.

Turk, my big gray bruiser of 18 pounds or so, is the most laid back of the trio. He is ginormous (I suspect some Maine Coone somewhere in his heritage) but very sweet-natured, which is a good thing, considering his size. He came to me when the guys at work found this tiny abandoned kitten at one of their worksites. Of course they knew I’d take it, which I did. Hard to believe this beast once fit in the palm of my hand!

Maggie, a Dilute Tortie, sayeth my vet, is the resident head bitch in charge. She rules the roost and makes no apologies for it, either. Some of you may recall that several years ago her name was Speck and she came to me through the Dope. Darn it, I can’t recall the lady’s handle that I corresponded with (I think that thread is still around) but my girl posse and I did a road trip to Chattanooga, TN, and met up with her and that’s how I acquired Miss Magnolia, better known as ‘Maggie’.

And then there’s Widget, who came to me via my niece. That story is also here on the Dope somewhere. She rescued the kitten while still at Ball State, but was having a little difficulty juggling her puppy, a tiny black and white kitten, working, AND going to school. So her soft-headed aunt took the kitten. Miss Widget is Attitude with fur on it. She lives to torment Maggie and loves to box with Turk, who plays right back at her. She’s a quarter his size but neither seem too concerned about it. She’s also a big-time snuggler when I’m on the couch.

Three are a bit more work than two, but two litter boxes make a big difference I’ve found. I vacuum at least three times a week to keep the hair down.

I have 8 cats, and last week I found and teeny orphan kitten that will probably become #9 unless I find someone who actually is looking for a kitten.

I also have 2 dogs ( a Lab & a terrier mix), 2 horses & 2 ponies. And a husband.

Because of the feline multitude I spent a stupid amount of money and got 3 automated boxes, 2 flushing and 1 Robot. They are a lifesaver! I still have 1 old fashioned box, and the cats have access to a fenced in cat yard all to themselves with lovely sandy spots in the corners. When I come home after days away I don’t smell “cat” at all. And trust me, I hate eau-de-box as much as any non-pet person.

I think all houses have a personal funk, pets or no. Some people like lots of aftershave and scented stuff, or frequently cook curry or spicy food, or have a horde of athletic teenage boys hanging out, or have babies in diapers. All of that leaves its odoriferous mark, and while it may not be unpleasant per se, it’s generally not something I find homey. Animals are a big art of my life, so animal smell (not excretory) is actually comforting to me. Babies and teenagers, not so much :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah, vacuuming 3 or 4 times a week is a bore, but I like the hair when it’s ON the critters, and not loose and drifting into my tea!

Just the one now. :frowning:

We were up to four at one point, but now we’re at 3. :otta’s getting old, and slow, but she still jumps up onto windows and things. Hermes and Hestia still have a greeat many years in them, though.

7 cats & 1 dog now…

First one on purpose because step daughter did not want moving neighbor to dispose of it.

All the rest are strays or drops or one trapped feral or we rescued ( really really close to dead ) one from under a park walkway.

We now have a 100# ½ St. Bernard ½ Pyrenees that was run over as a pup, Now about 3½. Long story but he is here now.

We don’t like a stinky house, computers do not like pet hair, it does not make food taste better nor does licking …

They are all very different critters, we have lost some due to accidents, going walkabout, given away ( kitties ).

We moved with all 7 cats & got Mighty Dawg here at the new place.

Until I was 48 or so, no animals in the house was my line in the sand. Had an Australian Shepperd for 15 years when younger but never in the house. A rescue from a relative that was moving. I took the dog or it was going to be put down.

I am now very good at sleeping with critters, removing hair from food, opening & closing doors, I understand ‘the look’ & love to hear Missy Face’s very clear “No…”

I have not ever hacked up a hair ball… yet.

I have 2 cats, about 4 and 8. They are both indoor kitties, but love to go outside, so I let them go out every so often for just a few minutes. Maybe if I ever move into a house, they will be able to go in the backyard. My kitty mainly sleeps with me at night and the other sleeps with my daughter.

We have four kitties. Two were planned and two were not. (The second two we found in our garage without a mom.) I think that’s our limit though because we tried to take in a stray kitten that showed up on our porch and our alpha cat was having none of it. We did eventually find a stray a good home where she is an only kitty and pretty happy about it.

I have four cats, all because someone in my former neighborhood dumped kittens and I found them in the middle of the night in my back yard (not all at the same time). I also have two small dogs that came to me in the same manner.

All my animals are indoor pets but of course the dogs go out in the fenced back yard when the need arises. I think I vacuum and clean the litter box frequently enough, and as much as I care for them I really don’t treat them like children. I swear! I mean, I like dressing the chihuahua in pretty dresses but who wouldn’t want to do that?

I really enjoy my animals, especially their snuggling and adoration. And they all serve a purpose! I have two cats who never fail to give me a good massage at the end of the day. Another curls up right next to my side and lulls me to sleep with her purrs. The dogs are not at all obnoxious or yappy despite being little guys.

Now I want a teeny orphan kitten, to bottle feed and burp and bathe and cuddle. Both of my current female cats are very firmly against any more additions to the household. Well, any more cat additions. I’m sure that they’d be OK with birds or fish or small lizards. You know, movable snacks. All four cats approve of watching the birds at the birdfeeder right outside the back door.

We have two wonderful Ragdolls that adore me

I have one and my roommate has two. I also have a dog.

I’ve always had a lot of pets but I’m trying to restrain myself these days as I’m going to be relocating a lot in the near future, and I want more options in rentals and freedom to travel. My cat (9 years old) hates all living creatures except for me, so I will not be torturing her by getting another cat. My dog is getting quite ancient now (he’s older than 12 and he’s a large breed), when he dies it will be just me and her for a while, though I probably won’t be able to hold out without a dog for longer than a couple years. I’ve had at least one dog of my own since I was 11 and I’m 28 now.

I’ve owned a cat all my life other than a couple of years respite when a favorite died and I just couldn’t bring myself to replace her right away.

My current girls are Emily, a blackish/brown shorthair and her sister/cousin, Saami, an orange and cream tabby. We are unsure of their relationship as their mothers were sisters and the kittens went back and forth between the boxes so much that the original owner lost track of who was who.

They are seven years old, know their manners and are indoor/outdoor cats. There are two cat doors in our home. We live on a block of cat owners so it hasn’t been an issue.

Emily is smart and a gift-giver with a great sense of humor, slender and quick. Saami is a little on the slow side but unfailingly obedient and affectionate, cobby and cautious.

And, yes, the bedroom door stays open in case one of them takes it upon herself to serve me breakfast in bed. I won’t tell you what it was yesterday or you’ll hate them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tomorrow they get their annual vaccinations. Sometimes I wonder how much money I’ve spent over the years on cat health.

Currently, one. Usually, two, and I will have two again someday. If I ever become substantially more well-off, possibly more than two.

We have 9 cats. All of them live inside with us, along with a 100 lb. German Shepard mix, and a smallish Peagle.

Our cats are Baggins, Mr. Brandybuck, Luca, Squeaks, Todd (A stray, pregnant female that my husband brought home), and her spawn, which are Ronon, Teyla, Carson, and Emma.

Only two despite the fact that eldest begs for a kitty of her own. Both of them are my kitties and follow me around all day. We have a shelter adopted mostly white male and a brown tabby and white Maine Coon female. She has beauty and brains while he’s a mush cat and a mouser.

I’m reporting three although, technically, I only have two. Number three is a random cat who arrives for breakfast, sleeps on my patio all day and then leaves shortly after I feed him dinner at night. Where he goes or if he has another home, I have no idea.

My entire family is allergic to cats, to one degree or another. That may explain why I am a dog person.

We have a yellow Lab. He is generally clean and well-behaved, and is fairly trim and fit for his age (about 10, though we’re not entirely sure). Despite regular brushing, he sheds continuously and copiously. We have learned to live with a certain amount of dog hair on everything we own, and have a lint roller by the front door for guests to use as they depart.

That’s really thoughtful of you.

Ten. Count 'em, ten. Nice big ones, too.

The feline overlords seem to be gaining.
