How many championships have "your teams" won since you started following them?

Bears- 1
Bulls- 6
Blackhawks-2
White Sox- 1

Thanks for doing the math for me, I have to drop the Knicks though. I wasn’t following Basketball in 1970 or 1973 so 12 for me. Amazing really how many the Giants have got, I just wish the Yanks could do a little better.

Watch out for this guy. I saw him play for Stanford.

Philadelphia Eagles - 0/1 (since 1992) :frowning:
Portland Trailblazers - 0/0 (since 2006)
Arizona Diamondbacks 1/1 in the greatest World Series of all time (since inception)
Arizona Wildcats basketball 1/2 (since as far as I can remember, probably 89 or 90)

Not to be bitter, but seeing as he turned down a $3.8 MM signing bonus with the Pirates, I wouldn’t mind seeing him struggle for a while in the minors.

Bastage!

Still, it is impressive that he was touted as the number one pick after his junior year, went back and was the number 1 pick again. That speaks highly to his talent and potential.

Sorry, Jules, but the greatest WS of all time was 1960. (Unless you mean since the Diamondback’s inception, but I’ll assume you meant World Series so we can take a trip down memory lane.)

Yes, I am a Pirate fan, and yes, this seems like a homer pick, but if you study the series, it is an amazing series from just about every angle including the fact that the Pirates won.

From Wikipedia:

I doubt Game 7 will ever be matched for the emotional highs and lows for fans of both teams.

The Pirates led 4-0 until the top of the 5th, when the Yankees scored 1 run. In the top of the 6th, they scored 4 to take their first lead, 5-4.

The Yankees scored 2 more runs in the 8th to take a 7-4 lead, but the Pirates stormed back with 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th, capped off by the most famous HR in World Series history up to that point. With the Pirates trailing 7-6, Hal Smith hit a 3-run HR to give the Pirates the lead 9-7, and if the Pirates bullpen could have held the lead in the top of the 9th, Hal Smith would be a household name, and few outside of Pittsburgh would know the name Bill Mazeroski.

But fate wasn’t kind to Smith, as the Yankees scored 2 in the top of the 9th to tie the game at 9-9. I’m sure he didn’t mind, however, when Mazeroski ended the game with his walk-off HR in the bottom of the 9th.
Sorry for the hijack. But until last year, we Pirate fans had to immerse ourselves in our history, since the last 20 years were so ugly.

Raiders 3 (started in '75)
Jags 0 ('93)

Sixers ('77) 1, then stopped following basketball soon after

Oilers ('82) 5, tho I was more in awe of them than a fan of them, per se. Also started following the Red Wings c. 1997, so that’s 4 more.

Baseball, it’s been the Red Sox for 30 years now, so 3.

total for local/regional home teams: 2
total for all teams around the country that I followed closely at the time: 10

Cincinnati Reds: 3 (1975, 1976, 1990)
University of Kentucky Basketball: 4 (1978, 1996, 1998, 2012)
University of Kentucky Football: yeah, right
Cincinnati Bengals: 0 (I don’t really follow the Bengals that closely anymore, but I guess they are still my “home” NFL team)

I only really care about one team, Coventry City. They have never won a “Championship”, but in 1987 they did win the FA Cup, their only major trophy in their 131 year history.

As far as American sports go, a few years back I adopted all the Philadelphia teams due to a good friend of mine being from there. I understand that this is supposed to set me up for a world of hurt, but the Phillies did win the World Series in 2008.

Twins: 2
Packers: 2
LA Kings: 1

Five total. (I also cheer for Arsenal, but I kind of latched on when they were good around 2000, not a lifelong fan, so I am not counting them.)

Knicks fan since 1991. Mets fan since 1997.

A grand total of 0 championships, with 2 losses in the NBA Finals for the Knicks, 1 in the World Series for the Mets under nearly the most painful circumstances possible, and lots and lots of nigh unwatchable baseball and basketball at sky high prices.

I call myself the Orange And Blue Pincushion.

Because they lost to the Yankees? I don’t remember it as being one of those close Serieses that the losing team’s fans replay constantly with all the what-ifs, like in 2011 (Rangers), 2001 (Yankees), or 1997 (Indians). Which is what I usually associate with “pain” as a sports fan. then again, YMMV…

On another note, I’m intrigued by the number of people in this thread who follow teams from widely separated cities in different sports. I’d be kind of curious to know how you get to be a Twins fan AND an LA Kings fan, or how you get to follow the Eagles, Diamondbacks, and Trailblazers simultaneously.

I like the way you think, Bolteater. I went to Kent State, and the year the Flashes won the NCAA basketball tournament was a hell of a lot of fun. Pay no attention to those people who will tell you that the best Kent State ever did in the tournament was in 2002 when they made the elite 8 and lost to Indiana in the regional finals. In my deluded mind, the Flashes won the tournament that year.

You sound like a Chicago Cubs fan.

My count is 7:
San Francisco Giants - 2
San Francisco 49ers - 5

Yes, because being at playoff games - and ultimately, losing the WS in your home ballpark - should not be seeing it about 1/3 filled with fans of the other team.

I don’t wish this on anyone.

Except now, Yankees fans.

At least the Mets won a home game. (I was there for both the win and the final loss.). The “nearly” referred to the near sweep…

Got it. Thanks.

I was at WS game 1 that year. That was a great game and there was a fair number of Mets fans at the game though far from 1/3rd. Was it really that bad at Shea?

Washington Husky football: 1 (1991)
Seattle SuperSonics: 1 (1979)
Seattle Seahawks: 1 (2014)
The Mariners? A) I’m not a baseball fan, B) the chances of them ever winning a World Series I imagine are approximately the same as those of me someday becoming the Pope

Which team did you pull for when the two of them played against each other in the Super Bowl a few years ago (I was pulling for the Pack in that one ALL THE WAY)?
