How many Christians here have seen Fahrenheit 9/11 and feel it's ok to talk about it?

I don’t see this as a “witnessing” thread so I put it here, hope that’s ok.

I’m just curious because on a certain Christian Message Board that I am a member of (one I won’t name), they deleted a 3 page thread where we were discussing this movie.

I’m disappointed in the actions but am also curious as to what other Christians may think. Is there a reason we shouldn’t discuss something like this movie when it affects the world we live in? Whether or not it’s truth for some and lies for another?

FTR I saw the movie and am glad I saw it and am glad Michael Moore made it.

Your opinions?

I’m a Roman Catholic who’s seeing it in a couple of hours. Are we close enough for government work?

Had there been threads on the board before that had immediately blazed into giant flamewars? If it was Thread #500 on the thing maybe they were stamping out the embers before the board caught fire.

Nope, it was the one and only thread.

Have fun at the movies!

I haven’t seen it yet…I’ve been busy & every time I’ve driven by the local theater where it’s showing, the lines are around the block.
But, I’m sure I’ll see it soon-ish…
From what I’ve heard of the movie, I can’t see a reason that it shouldn’t be discussed - in general…

(I do belong to one group where discussions of mass media (specific books, tv shows, movies, songs) are “discouraged” because that isn’t the purpose of the group and the organizers feel that such conversations sidetrack people from the group’s purpose. There, I wouldn’t discuss the movie, or any other movie. Does the board you’re on have a policy like that?)

That’s absurd.

Christian here (R. Catholic). I saw F9/11, and was maybe more moved by it than I was by POTC. There is absolutely nothing unChristian about F9/11. At all. If I were you, I’d call everyone on that board close-minded idiots, say your farewells, and delete your account. There’s simply no excuse for closing such a thread*.

*Unless the thread was devolving into a gigantic flamefest, and turning away from any set rules/guidelines the board had.

This is the explanation I got when asking why the thread was deleted.

*It was removed because I do not allow people to promote anything that even comes close to Anti-American propaganda. I know that some people (very few) will scream censorship. And that’s fine. I simply call it ownership. As an owner of this site I feel that it is my responsibility to keep the site free from this type of garbage.
*

There were a few posters in the thread who made remarks of wishing ill will to Michael Moore and nothing was said to them, but besides agreeing and disagreeing about the movie, that was it.

One of the guidelines for the board is this-
“Do not post messages with extreme, or legalistic agendas”? I don’t know, is the movie an agenda? Maybe so…

Why not just interpret that guideline as “Do not post messages with which I do not agree”?

I support the board owners’ right to let stand or delete any damn thing he pleases.

But I don’t think I’ll be visiting that site.

Yikes! Not a good reason in my book.

Thanks! Headed off to the north right now, bolstered by the good review of my fellow bead-jiggler!

And that’s part of what’s so sad about this country, that criticism of the government is construed as treason. Too many people think that good citizenship requires lockstep obedience, but they do not understand that our nation was founded on the principle that the rights of citizens to freedom of expression are paramount. You might wish to tell this person that Jesus wasn’t a Republican and that Americans owe their government the duty to speak up when it has gone astray. You also might want to point her to Thoreau’s essay on civil disobedience

Christian (Lutheran) Sunday school teacher here. I saw it and thought it was quite good.

The owner of that website is a moron. There’s nothing remotely “Anti-American” in the movie. Maybe he should, you know, actually see the movie before judging it.

I wonder if I’ll ever see the day when people stop equating criticism of the gov’t as anti-Americanism. Oh wait, I know, it’ll be the day a Democrat is back in the White House. Then it’s American as apple pie.

That quote alone is enough to realize the moderator or owner or whoever is an utter twit and you’re better off not frequenting the board.

Thank you dreamer!
The christian board I go to totally vilifies Moore and all democrat as evil and immoral.

Its sad.

They don’t see that the right gives LIP service to “morality” just to get their vote.
God is Not right wing.

Yep, christians are close minded(some not all).

Thank God for this board where Moore is not satanic nor are the perverted gays trying to take over the world.

Keep me, you guys!

A predominantly Christian* board I’m on has had many threads about. Everyone agreed with the movie and praised it except for one guy, who was flamed off of the board for pulling the lazy “Michael Moore is un-American!” argument (without seeing the film of course.)
*Note: by Christian, I mean these people actually follow the teachings of Christ and try to exhibit them in their daily lives. These teachings include loving, respecting, and supporting each other, caring for the poor, attempting to rejuvenate our communities and stamp out the cynicism and misanthropy that’s actively eroding our entire senses of community and family. They’re not judgemental, don’t hate homosexuals, are politically liberal if not radical [in accordance with the teachings of Christ, who fall slightly left of Nelson Mandela in the political spectrum], and are disgusted with the state and perception of the “Christian” institution, with its Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and WWJD." They read and study Soren Kierkegaard, St. Augustine, John Calvin, and Frederick Buechner instead of Pat Robertson and “Left Behind.” In fact, I wish there were more Christians like that.

Wow, apparently I’m David Foster Wallace now.

I’m glad to hear they’re out there. I hope they expand and grow. Are they in danger of being wiped out like what happened to the Liberal Republicans?

How positively Christian of them.

If I saw it, the reason I wouldn’t admit to it wouldn’t be because I’m a Christian. It’d be because I’d be ashamed of putting money in Moore’s pockets.

Well, I went to the bargain matinee  which in this part of the country still meant $7.50.

Fine movie for a Christian, very humane. Does not take the easy route of using Bush’s (or anybody’s, including the Muslim’s) religion against them; religion was hardly mentioned at all, except by the mother of one soldier who was killed, and she was mostly the heroine of the piece.

If anybody wants my take on the thing, get comfortable (it’s loooong) and looky here.

Some stupid person (not here) claims Moore should be in Guatanamo for treason.

I am taking my 11 year old son.
It is R, but he can get in with me.
Before 6 p.m. its $5.

OK, vanilla, if you think he’s ready, but be aware when the Iraqi war starts there are some very nasty dead children images. If you talk with him about it before and after, the rest should be mostly OK, if perhaps confusing.

thank you.
Now I will know when to have him look away.
