How many Christians here have seen Fahrenheit 9/11 and feel it's ok to talk about it?

In the movie there is a brief clip with Britney Spears who says something like: “I believe we should just follow our President and not contiue to argue with his decisions.” (Obviously paraphrased, but you get the idea.)

Upon hearing that I thought to myself that is the blondest thing anyone could have ever said.

Be careful - there’s quite a few places with war images that would potentially be disturbing, and the f-word comes up a few times. I don’t think it’s anything an eleven-year-old couldn’t handle, but it does depend on the kid. He does, at some points, clearly depict the brutality of the 9/11 attacks, as well as that of the war.

Moore advocates critical throught.

Some people find that very intimidating.

Sometimes people turn to religion to avoid critical thinkng. Some types of religion present a neat package, all tied up with a bow, that provides simplistic answers to simplistic questions, and that discourages thinking at a deeper level.

Sound like your Christian Message Board has chosen that type of religion.

You can chose for yourself whether you wish to think critically, or to blindly follow dogma, and whether or not all forms of Christianity require dogma, or just a particular form of Christianity as followed by the Christian Message Board requires dogma.

I may see it when it comes out on DVD- doubtful as I haven’t bothered with BOWLING yet. I just have no interest in anything Michael Moore has to say.

That said, I think the C’tian board that deleted it is loopy.

I have seen stuff like LAST TEMPTATION, THE RAPTURE, and DOGMA; I hope for Universal Salvation (I believe in Salvation for most of humanity & final extinction for totally hardened anti-God rebels); while I oppose gay marriage, I don’t oppose civil unions; and I think HARRY POTTER is harmless make-believe. And alas, I do feel the need to be cautious in which fellow churchmembers I discuss these with.

I have it on DVD here and haven’t seen it yet, but am planning to. I don’t see why a Christian board would not want people discussing a movie like this.

Most christians think Moore is bad and evil and traitorous.

Its the whole mind set.
They discuss him, but God forbide anyone should defend him.

I eed to find some liberal chrsitians in real life.
Really.

I tried to give this couple a book to read (I had mentioned it mentioned Iraq and lots. Its by Icke, but they have never heard of him, trust me. They said NO thanks.
They won’t read anything that doesn’t agree with their views.
I wonder how they learn anything then.) :frowning:

I’ve heard at least one Christian, and not a particularly pro-Bush one, say the Bible demands a certain level of respect for any government leader. Maybe it does, in places, but then you also have your Herods, your Pharoahs, etc. At any rate, surely respect for leaders doesn’t require re-election up to the term limits every time, does it?

I’m pretty anti-Bush myself, but as a Christian I dislike some of the baser slams against him. He at least deserves to be called by his real name, if not preceded by “Mr.” or “President.” But I see no problem with a polemic, political film that’s opposed to him, just on the grounds that he’s a sitting president and should never be dissed. All the more reason to hold him to the highest standards of political conduct, considering what office he holds!

But GOD wated him to be president!
Obviously GOD is conservative.

God hates us, obviously.

Meh. If God wanted Bush to be president, then He wanted Clinton to be president before him, and Bush I before Clinton, and on back. For that matter if Kerry defeats Bush then God can be said to have endorsed Kerry. What a tired old argument that is; I know some people really do think God is on the side of the Republicans but I refuse to take them at all seriously.

To clarify: the tired argument is “God wants Our Guy to be President.” A more rational argument might be “God wants whoever won, to be President.”

I recall some fundamentalist ladies crying (literally) when Clinton was elected, saying things like “Satan has won!” Um. Pretty weak God, isn’t it, who can’t throw a simple election if he wants to? The staunchest rational Republican might argue that Clinton became president because God wanted him to, without passing the slightest judgment on the man’s worthiness or goodness. Mysterious ways, and all that.

It never occured to me that this movie would be offensive to Christians specifically. How bizarre.

I saw the movie, I’m Christian. I encourage my Church-Lady gray-haired grandmotherly mom to see it. Sure, I think a lot of it is bullshit, (some of it was dramatic and thought-provoking, though), but I saw nothing that would offend Christians.

This other message board has the right to delete whatever they want, and I support their right to do that, but I agree with others here—it’s bullshit.

I find it completely ludicrous that anyone would find Fahrenheit 9/11 inappropriate to talk about just because of their religion. I also find it ludicrous when people say that it’s inappropriate to talk about politics and religion in general. Really now, just how the hell do these people learn?

Then why go there? Some people can’t live without a target, but why enable them?

Yes, I’m pretty sure I have read that somewhere too but my question to that would be, what if you were living in Nazi Germany when Hitler was the “Leader”? Could any Christian rationalize any respect for a man like that?

Because I like to converse with christians and theres ot many here.
If only they’d leave politics out of it.

That’s the problem. They don’t.

Ya know, I knew the answer to that question but insisted on asking it anyways.
tries to save face

Umm…err…Did you know that John Quincy Adams kept a pet alligator because he enjoyed the “spectacle of guests fleeing from the room in terror”?

Perhaps this guy should be sent a copy of the articles talking about how the Chinese government is censoring text messages to prevent anti-China propaganda. He sounds like Commie scum to me.

ROTFLMFAO!

So opposing frivolous acts of war is anti-American in this guy’s view? If that’s the case, then Christianity itself is necessarily anti-American, as I seem to recall that Jesus had some nasty words for those who “live by the sword.” Fahrenheit 9/11 has its flaws, but it’s more Christian in spirit than anything done by the smarmy ass who calls Jesus his “favorite political philosopher.”
