If you visit Great Debates, you will see not one, not two, but three ongoing threads concerning the young Cuban boy Elian. Now, I think the politicization of this child’s welfare makes a fine topic for debate, but how many conversations do we need to have simultaneously?
Please, people. Is it so hard to look at what threads are currently active before you hit that new topic button? Are you afraid that your brilliant posts will somehow be overlooked if the entire thread does not have your name on it? Do you just get a kick out of seeing your username on the front panel?
It seems such a simple idea, really. If a conversation is already taking place about your topic, post in the existing thread!! Isn’t it bad enough that we had to endure the sequential strangenesses of the LBBB invasion and the FORMERAGENT insanity? Did those experiences unhinge the entire community? Have we forgotten the basics of board ettiquette? Are people deliberately trying to bury existing threads deep in the mix so that they will die untimely deaths? Am I ranting without purpose and without end?
Don’t answer that one!!
Besides, I have ended.

Actually a least one of the threads should be a spinoff - one of the threads asks us to consider what we would do if we had a chance to allow our child(ren) a shot at a much better life than we could ever provide. Unfortunately, several posters ARE rehashing the Elian Gonzalez debate there, too - BUT if they stuck to the original premise, it’s a whole separate issue.
I can’t really think of any reason why the Republican-bashing thread needed to be separated, however.

Nick:
No, what I did was come to the PIT to complain about people opening op multiple threads to discuss a single topic. If you stretch your cranial capacity you might be able to comprehend that that is actually a separate topic. If you extend your intellect even further, you might realize that since I am talking about other posters in a non-flattering manner said topic belongs in the PIT. Now, if you exercise your ability to read (don’t worry, this requires only the most basic comprehension. You should do fine) and scan the top right portion of your browser window, you will see that this new topic is indeed where it belongs, in the PIT, where I can say to you:
Call a friend. Borrow a fucking clue.
