How many icons on YOUR desktop?

i have nothing on my desktop except a transparent calender on my wallpaper.

if you’re using XP, open the Group Policy Editor and go to admin templates/desktop/remove rubbish bin icon.

28, but I expect that number to rise. Had a lot more on the old computer (that is currently sitting in my bedroom awaiting a desk to put it on before it can be Awakened again!) That had ooo…loads and loads of really useless icons. It came from the factory with all these advertising icons that said ‘get quicktime!’ ‘get freeserve!’ ‘get ooobybooby butter’ etc. I never used those. Also every time I downloaded or installed anything I got about 1 up to 4 useless icons. They went forth and multiplied.

Some of them that I didn’t want anymore I deleted. Some wouldn’t delete for some reason. Some I tried to move to another folder, some wouldn’t move and I ended up with a shortcut to icon on the desktop. I am too untechnical to know how to correct that!

Some of it was self inflicted though. Like the Sailor Moon solitaire game I downloaded…I really miss that on my new computer sigh

Anyway I would like fewer icons. The more you have, they certainly do mess up the wallpaper as was said earlier. I like anime wallpapers and it is really irritating having to clear ‘get intelquax roast hedgehog!’ icons and the like away from Sailor Moon/Belldandy/Cardcaptor Sakura’s etc. face.

But I swear, every week there’s about 8 more…

hmm, new record here I think

195 all told. I REALLY should clean it up.

On the desktop of this one: sixteen – My Documents, My Computer, Recycle, IE, Two Dial-up internet connections, Nero CD Burner, anti-virus, CleanSweep, DVD player, Other Media Players, AcroReader, Printer Control, One OEM Bundled Applicattion that Stubbornly Refuses to be Shortcutted Off the Desktop, and two home-created groups (with icons picked from the library): one into which I moved all the OEM-branded “utilities” and helpfiles the company bundled into the system, and another one into which I moved the shortcuts that Palm OS put on my desk when I installed my Tungsten, including DocsToGo.

In the Taskbar “programs” menu I also re-package the program group tree in such a way as to keep the menu from scrolling off the screen, by creating such things as an “everything by Symantec Norton” group, and an “everything that plays media” group.

Wow, I thought I was the only Desktop-neat freak out there… Everyone else I know, my father exlcuded, has tons of useless crap on their desktop…drives me mad!

I have a whopping 8 right now (just deleted three upon reading this thread, lol…those icons were gnawing at the back of my head) Normally, I only have 7, but that 8th is a reminder.

I don’t stick everything in the Quick Launch bar, just the stuff I use very frequently (IE: IE, Outlook…things of that nature) I just have one folder on my desktop into which everything goes…and then there are 7 folders in that one… and so it goes… All told there are 147 folders in that one BIG folder…

But yeah, my actual computer desk top area is quite the mess, lol

HA! Yes, mine’s the same. I can keep anything organized on my computer, but my actual desk top is a nightmare … I’m a piler, not a filer.

16, which is really too much for me, but I haven’t taken the time to clean up and put everything where I like it yet.

god I only have 26, lol. and that’s a lot compared to some of my friends!
