How many knives do you own?

While I’ve had a half dozen or so nice hunting knives over the years, I just can’t seem to hang on to them. One really nice Buck skinning knife I lost for a year, then they found it half buried where we skin antelope, sent it to me and I lost the damn thing again.

All I have now in one razor sharp Buck 110. That’ll do.

Opinel No9
2 leatherman multitools
4" pocketknife of unknown manufacture, has a big eagle on the side
tiny swiss army knife with USB memory
weird super thin flexible steel blade (was about 12", cut down to 6") inserted into a file handle. I use it to cut styrofoam
Dull linoleum knife (inherited from who knows where)

I’ve got a Leatherman, my favorite for camping use, and some no name pocket knife with someone’s business info engraved on the side that only gets used when there’s nothing else at hand.

I’ve got five athames - large knives for ritual use, my favorite of which is a bizarre creature made by someone who worked Ren Faire. I’m ignorant of the correct terms, but it’s got a beautiful curved, leaf like blade shape (similar to this shape, but no grooves), with Egyptian hieroglyphics (real ones from a tomb wall) engraved on the blade and a very European looking wolf’s head for a pommel. It’s a WTF of a mash-up, but I love it. And considering that my spiritual views are themselves a WTF of a mash-up, it makes a great athame for me, although it’s far bigger and showier than most.

Two of any note. A Leatherman Wave, and a Kershaw… I can’t find a name but it’s got the number 2415 on the blade. It’s the very bottom-center knife in ducati’s linked iage. Plus there’s a number of thoroughly cheap utilitarian things in my toolbox.

[Laughs]Seriously. I have some in a knife block, and I have some more that I eat with. I don’t know the answer to this question. Several?

1 dirk

3 sgian-dubh

1 khanjar

2 jambiya

1 bowie

1 pocket knife

and probubly many others.

2 small Victorinox pocket knives
3 Buck folding knives in various sizes
1 Rapala Fillet knife
1 Unknown Fillet knife, love this knife. Was my dad’s and he got it as a company safety award (strange safety award)
1 Buck hunting knife
2 Custom made hunting knives
1 1930’s era bayonet
1 1930’s era dress uniform sabre
2 lineman’s hook knives
Several other folding knives
5" Henkels Santoku
7" Henkels Bread Knife

I should pay more attention to my knives. And should probably investigate the ones I don’t know the manufacturer for.

A Gerber folder that my son gave me, that I carry around and use to cut the ends off my cigars. A cheapo, no-name folder that I have had for forty years and use as a letter opener. And two Swiss army knives, one simple and the other with a bunch of tools that I carry in my briefcase.

Shodan

A full set of Gunter Wilhelm kitchen knives, sharp enough to shave with.
A Mundial 8-inch chef’s knife, wide blade.
Also: a small Swiss Army knife on my keyring.

I read the thread title and thought, “Good question.” I think I have 13 fixed blades and 17 folders.

I have a few Ken Onion Kershaws that I loved in high school but don’t use much now. My first truly EDC knife was a Gerber SL 3.25 though both of mine have the G10 scales. Mostly I cycle through 5 of my Benchmades, love that axis lock.

I still love knives but I don’t buy them like I used to, I find that my tastes have gotten a lot more specific and expensive. I recently acquired a BRKT Fox River Recurve. I got a strop and compounds too but I’ve yet to try sharpening the convex grind - I’m a little nervous about it.

I want a ghurka knife, you know, for camping.

Probably 30 or so. They’re not all in one pile so It would be tough to gather them all for a count. I actively carry 5 different knives,

Not enough. Let’s see… I’ve got a pocketknife on my keys and four knives for Pirate / RenFaire. And I want to get more to put on bracers.

Not many. A stamped 10" chef knife, a Forschner “utility knife,” and a cleaver bought at a fleamarket labeled Pakistan and (ha!) stainless steel. A cheap serrated bread knife. I cook all my own food, and it serves me well, all this cheap shit.

I used to have a leather-wrapped-handled hunting knife that, in my Travis Bickle days in high school, I’d tape up to my boots. That’s missing.
