How many miles have you put on a car?

My current vehicle is a 92 Ford Explorer with 195,000 miles on it. I put 155,000 of those on it myself since 1996; it’s still running on the original engine with no rebuild. Previous was a ?90? Ford Aerostar (on loan from my sister-in-law) with 130,000, preceded in turn by an 84 Ford Bronco with 330,000 miles on it. The Bronco is still being driven by the guy I sold it to on the original engine, but I don’t know the current mileage; I don’t know the fate of the minivan, nor do I care.

The highest mileage on any vehicle I have personally driven is on a Ford Econoline box van that my family used for a delivery truck in our TV repair business. It averaged over 2000 miles per week, making pickups and deliveries all over Louisiana. As of the time it was retired due to irreparable body deterioration, it had over 770,000 miles on it. I believe it still had the original engine, with two rebuilds.

Nothing too unusual, compared to some in this crowd, but I’ve put 150,000 miles on two different cars now, inlcuding an old '70 Grand Fury (it already had 100,000 to start, for a total of 250,000), an '86 Mazda B2000 (still running, now owned by a friend of my brother, at around 225,000), and my current '96 Saturn SL2 now has in excess of 120,000.

Yes, I do drive a bit.

VW Jetta Bought it new in August '98. Rolled over 100K last week. Right now it’s just a little over 104K. Mostly due to my 35-40 mile commute the first couple of years. My biggest disappointment with this car was that two months after I bought it they rolled out the new style Jetta. But it’s been a damn fine car & I’m very hard on my vehicles.
