What is the most miles you ever put on a car? My best is about 160,000. My wife is slack on oil changes and routine car care. She blows them up at less than 100 thou.
249,000 on a 1990 Chevy Silverado and it’s still going. My dad now uses it for getting around the rural community where they live. He mainly uses it during hunting season. I think it’s up to 260,000 now.
I’ve gotten one of my Volvos to 116,000 before someone took it out in an accident. My wife’s S80 is pushing 106,000 at the moment.
I had an '80 Benz 240D with over 500,000 miles on it for a while, but I only put a few dozen k on it before selling it. It had been owned by an engineer with OCD and a maintenance fetish (as many 240’s were) and it was still in immaculate shape. I’m sure it’s still rattling along somewhere, mileage badges glistening.
The most I personally put on a car was about 150k I put on an '88 Buick Century that had 100k when I got it. The original motor and transmission still worked great at 250k, but the body was falling apart from GM paint syndrome and several deer hits.
My friend bought my '95 Civic a few years back-last I noticed it was over 150,000.
Most was 165,000 on a '92 Volvo. It was still going and is probably still on the road. Current car is a '99 Nissan with 145,000 miles, and still going strong. I’ve taken all my cars well over 100k. There’s no pride in a low-milage car.
I personally have to really hate a car to get rid of it before 200k. My personal record so far is 250k for a Nissan pickup truck. The body had about rusted off of it to the point where one of my friends gave it the nickname “Bondo Bandit”. Around 250k the fuel pump went out, and while that was a fairly simple fix, I decided to use that as an excuse to get rid of it. I sold it for $50 to someone who wanted the engine out of it.
I tend to replace cars at 185K miles +/- 5K. Usually because by then, I’m tired of them, and they require repairs that aren’t worth it in the long run.
I don’t hit the highest for the thread, but I give them a good run.
110K on my '05 Subaru Baja.
103K on my wife’s '00 Nissan Frontier (she’s a stay (work) at home mom)
Since this is essentially a poll, it is better suited for IMHO than GQ.

There was a guy on Letterman years ago who had a car pushing 999,999 miles. They trailered it to Manhattan and he drove it around the block outside their studio until it rolled over to 1. He came inside and they dropped balloons and confetti and they had beautiful women bring out the new car they were giving him, which had 350,000* miles on it and the vanity plate CHPBSTRD.
*It was another very high mileage car, I don’t remember exactly what the mileage was.
I’m at 201,000 on my '96 Accord. I keep prepping my wife for the eventual day when it will finally die. Although now I’m hoping to make 250,000 - mostly because I like the sound of 1/4 Million Miles.
My first truck was my grandfather’s he bought brand new in 1979. Its currently has 769,000 miles on it. Its a trash truck now, but when my brother and I get some time, we are going to restore it.
279,000 on a 1989 Honda Civic when I sold it, the girl is still driving it.
I only have 97,000 on my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. Its still a baby!
192K on my '98 Ford Ranger. It’s starting to get a little tired.
My brother’s grandma had a Pontiac Bonneville that rolled the 1,000,000 miles. GM came and mounted a camera in the Bonnie, and drove it around her Southeast Texas neighborhood utill it rolled. I don’t know what they ever did with it, but they gave her a Pontiac Sunfire. Its dead, the Bonnie is still starting to this day apparently.
My 1999 Honda CR-V is about to hit 200,000. I have no plans to replace it anytime soon, I bought it a few years ago and have never had a problem with it. I mean, I have replaced the tires and regularly change the oil and stuff like that but it has never needed anything big done to it. It is our main car and I drive it all over town, pick up the kids, etc. When it does die I plan to replace it with another one. It still looks fine, too.
Our '96 Volvo is in the 190,000s and is running great. Our biggest issue has been replacing some of the plastic parts in it, because they’re all starting to deteriorate. Our mechanic has a picture up on the wall of the odometer of a car he services that hit 300,000. We love our mechanic - he’s great.
I’ve had my Volvo 850 for 15 years, and have put 197,000 on it so far.
My 88 Honda Civic died registering 308K miles (original motor and transmission). Now, having checked the odometer numerous times on various stretches of road, it was consistently 4 miles per hundred off (so, registering 104 miles when the Interstate mileage markers showed 100). Thus, the actual mileage was probably really about 296K.
Around 240k on a 1994 Saturn SL2. No major repairs - just routine stuff that I replaced as they wore out. I finally donated it in 2005 when it developed an exhaust leak and the smog tag was up for renewal. I didn’t want to pay to fix the leak so that it could pass smog so that I could legally drive it/sell it. Besides, at that point I think it’s resale value was probably less than $500.
My current daily driver is a 2000 Subaru Forester with 185k.
I put 251,000 miles on a 1997 Mazda B2300 pickup between acquiring it new and getting rid of it in January 2009. It’s now owned by my father-in-law and still runs well - he uses it as his daily driver. It has the original engine and transmission, and the original clutch, which some find hard to believe. Long freeway commutes rack up lots of miles without wearing out clutches.
Wash it up, and still looks pretty nice, too!
