I’ve spent the last couple of hours trying to have a reasonable discussion about what might curtail the terrorists from continuing their violence, but it’s pointless. Not sure if those wanting just to argue are drunk or actually this thick, but I guess it’s a moot point anyway, and a waste of time.

Well, no, you haven’t. If you want to talk about how to halt the radicalization of new Muslims, that’s one conversation. One where the answer is largely stop the us vs them culture that groups like isis feed on. If you want to talk about stopping specific groups the answer is police and military action with the cooperation of the oppressed people. If it is stopping all violence in the middle east… I won’t pretend to have an answer but I know propagating hate on both sides is bad. You haven’t seemed to want to talk about any of that though. You say you want to talk about how to stop the violence but it really seems like you just want to say that all Muslims are terrorists, link to hate sites, and then change the subject when called on it.

Islamic terrorists and their sympathizers/supporters hate the west because they yearn for the days of caliphate, the Ottomans being a powerful world force. Hell, if Israel were th reason they hated America, then they’ve demonstrated why they’re terrorists. Curtail the terrists? Well, really, there are a number of ways to lessen the number of one’s enemies. The most common, the time honored solution, is to kill them. That one appeals to the simple minded among us, they think it is a finality.
Another, less popular method is to avoid making them. Or needlessly adding to their number, at the very least. Try to avoid moving someone from disliking us to hating our guts. Perhaps seizing them by the lapels and shrieking into their faces what savages they are is not the best approach. Just a thought.
Aid and assistance to their recruitment drives is ill-advised, in my estimation. If our enemies depend on getting people to believe that we, the West, are at war with their faith regardless…perhaps proving that their recruitment themes are true might not be strategically advantageous.
If we truly were cynically and coldly at war with Islam, wouldn’t it be smarter to lie about it? Keep saying “Nice doggy, good doggy” while we feel around on the ground for a fist-sized rock?

I think all that can be reasonably done is already being done, and some unreasonable things on top of that.
We can not prevent all attacks. Eventually, one of the whackjobs is going to succeed.
Unless we’re all willing to put ourselves under lockdown/house arrest indefinitely, allow unannounced searches of our persons and properties, and basically vote to treat ourselves like prisoners under life sentence. I would find that unacceptable, as would most others.
I accept that the world is not perfectly safe. I take what precautions I find reasonable and get on with my life.
That’s not how slavery was ended. That’s how legalized discrimination was ended. Race-based slavery in the US was ended by fighting a full out war. It would help if you actually knew something about history.
Strictly speaking, though, slavery hasn’t ended. Now we call it “human trafficking” or it’s perpetrated by some whacko keeping young women locked in his house and using them for fucktoys. We ended institutionalized slavery but the practice still occurs in the US, not to mention other parts of the world that are even less enlightened.
