I will definitely try to see Moore’s movie, and I think the more see it the better for America.
However, I must say that I would NEVER go see a movie by Ann Coulter (or Rush, or Hannity, or …). No matter how many awards it got or how much media attention it got.
The thing that puzzles me is the following: I think that even conservatives and pro-Bush people should go see this movie, since I think it has some important facts that it can provide them. On the other hand, if a conservative friend of mine asked me to see Ann Coulter’s movie, because it has some important facts for everyone, I could not bring myself to go watch that crap, just so that I may listen to some facts.
Maybe I’m being unfair, and have double standards. But I think it’s perfectly reasonable
Anyway, I’m curious, among fellow Dopers, who would go see a movie made by Ann Coulter, a la “Fahrenheit 9/11”?
In your response, it would be informative to add how likely you are to watch “Fahrenheit 9/11”
a) You will definitely see it/have seen it
b) May end up seeing it.
c) Will definitely NOT see it
and also how you feel about people from “the other side” watching the movie you like.
In any case, I don’t doubt that people like you would not find even one important fact in Moore’s movie. I would not be able to find one important fact in Coulter’s moview.
But that was the point of the OP. I just wanted to get a feeling of the correlation between people who would go see one movie vs the other, and how they feel about the “need” for people from the other side of the political spectrum to go watch “their” movie.
Based on the little I’ve read of Coulter’s prose, I would say that’s a fair assessment. All venom, no content. But I cannot believe there is no journalist on the right with the brains and discipline produce a Moore-quality documentary/propaganda film. I’ve just never heard of one.
And yes, I have seen Farenheit 9/11, and I agree that everyone should. In fact, I hope it’s shown on TV – broadcast, not cable – sometime before November. But I don’t know of a broadcast network that would touch it . . .
Oh, and to answer the OP – I wouldn’t go to see a movie made by Coulter, but I would go to see a right-wing film if it were of high enough quality and with no more provable distortions than one might find in a Moore film.
Thanks for saving me 15 bucks and ~2 hours of my life! (Not that I find that revelation to be suprising in the least.)
Regardless, I would probably see a Coulter flick. Just because. Assuming, of course, that it isn’t about the plight of the Oompa-Loompas or some other ‘social commentary’ crap.
I will probably not see Moore’s flick, even now that it has freed itself of the greedy corporate chains that held it back, and it now runs free, FREE!, on the internet. Roger and Me was an excersise in stupidity, and the bit of BfC that I saw was pathetic. Canadian Bacon was a traveshamockery. Why people insist that Moore is a good director is beyond me.
I’d go, particularly if it became as widely discussed as F9/11 has. In fact, as I walked out of the cinema after seeing F9/11, I remarked that I would go see a Rush Limbaugh movie if he made one.
I wouldn’t want to see it, but I might be persuaded to if the movie was critically acclaimed and if it was about something that I cared about (like the president’s background and circle of friends). Also, I’m the type of person who hates being left out of the loop, so if all of my friends and everyone on the SDMB was discussing it, I would go see it just so that I could follow and contribute to the discussion.
I wouldn’t have seen Michael Moore’s movie if I had seen evidence beforehand that it was full of lies and exaggerations. The movie had lots of commentary, sure, but the evidence was solidly there and most of Moore’s questions were reasonable IMHO. If a movie produced by Ann Coulter met the same standard, then I would see it.
Moore’s dishonesty is a pale shadow of Coulter’s. She is as utterly evil as tar pitch is black. I wouldn’t pay one dime to see anything by her. In fact, I would pay people not to watch it.
