How many states have you visited? (poll)

I am missing North & South Dakota, West Virginia and Vermont. Been everywhere else.

So with Guam (not a state!) canceling out Mississippi (mentioned in a later post), you’re actually at 27, assuming no further memory jogging.

As for me, I’ve hit 33, missing the following:

Alaska
Hawaii
Washington
Oregon
California
Nevada
Arkansas
Mississippi
Louisiana
Texas
New Mexico
Arizona
Utah
Colorado
Oklahoma
Kansas
Idaho (although I might have passed through a corner during a Yellowstone Park family vacation when I was a kid, I didn’t get out of the car in what might have been Idaho, so it’s a “no” either way)

I’m sure there are people who’ve been to more than 50 states – if they’re allowed to count the province-like divisions of Mexico, Brazil, Australia, India, etc.

All but Alaska.

I think I’m at 22 + DC. I’ve got all the east cost, most of the south, a bit of the mid-west, nothing west or non-continental.

I’ve lived in 5 states and worked in a 6th.

I’ve been to 5 of the New England states in one day. (Not difficult to do and one could easily do all 6, but it’s not common.)

All but Alaska. Should have driven there when I had a chance, but plans to go in 2013 or 2014.

I wrote out my list to see how many, voted, and then I realized I’d forgotten one. So I’ve been to 31, which admittedly includes a number which I’ve pretty much just driven through and spent the night in.

When I was a kid we went on a Great Big Road Trip and I can’t for the life of me remember if we went through Nebraska or Kansas (clearly, that state made a huge impression on me).

I’m not sure if Idaho should be legitimately included in my count. On one hand: I just passed through on a road trip, didn’t spent the night there, and didn’t really see anything. On the other hand: we did stop for the better part of an afternoon out of necessity because the snow was blowing so hard we couldn’t really see the road, meaning that Idaho made a much greater impression on me than some other states I’ve driven through (because this was in June).

35 as far as I can tell. But I’m one of the few that can include Alaska AND Hawaii.

It does. Promise. It’s one of mine. Mind you, I went with Mom and Littlebro and we sort of had to take turns to stand inside it… ducks

I’ve taking my motorcycle through the lower 48 states. I’ve also driven through a lot of the states in a car, though that’s when I was younger and don’t remember any of it. I’d love to be able to take the bike to Alaska at some point in time, just don’t know when I can do it.

I’ve been to 16, plus DC.

Delaware
Florida
Indiana
Maryland
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
West Virginia

(And Washington DC)

I think it’s becoming clear why. Fifty-staters are pretty rare - only one so far. But I gave everyone a chance to talk about their favorite thing - themselves!

I-44 does not cross KS, but there is now an Exit 1, which goes to Downstream Casino, just off I-44. You leave I-44 in MO and travel 1/4 mile to a roundabout in KS, then to the casino, which is in OK.

I have been to 15 states.
IL (born & raised)
MO (lived here since age 17)
IA
IN
MI
AR
MS
LA
TX
NM
AZ
KS
OK
AL
GA

I thought it was 10, but completely blanked out Illinois. Oh, and what ever state Denver’s in.

  1. 14 states and 2 territories. Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, California, Florida, Washington, Virginia, Texas, New Mexico, Maryland, Arizona, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas USVI.
I’ve driven through Colorado, but that doesn’t count in this poll.

18 by your definitions, 16 by mine (I don’t normally count New Hampshire and Delaware, where I’ve made highway rest stops for gas and bathroom but not spent any significant time outside of the car.) Also DC.

All but Alaska and Hawaii.

I’m counting Iowa but I don’t remember if my foot touched actual ground. We did purposefully drive several hours out of our way to see Iowa during a long summer vacation when we were passing through Minnesota. I’m sure we stopped for gas or something, but I don’t really remember. It wasn’t a drive-through (OP’s restriction) since our hotel was still a couple hours back north in Minnesota so I’m counting it.

  1. Basically all except New England, the deep South, and the Southwest. Or Alaska/Hawaii.

I have been in every state except Maine and Alaska. Mostly due to my father being n the military and us moving around a lot as a kid. All the travel as a kid created severe restlessness in me while my father was stationed at Kirtland in New Mexico and I took off as soon as I graduated. Good times.

Seven, on vacations. California was like another country altogether. Florida is in a class by itself. Others are New York, New Jersey, N. Carolina, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. I adore New England, I wish I was a rich younger preppie type so I could go live there and start a quaint business.

Honeymoon in San Francisco for a week, then drove up to Lake Tahoe for a week, so 2 for me.
