As a little kid I was taken to some states I haven’t revisited since: Texas and Oklahoma.
As a somewhat older kid I was taken to some I remember visiting, but little about them: Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri.
As an adult I have seen and remember seeing: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, West Virginia.
This far, I have yet to visit Michigan, Rhode Island and Delaware in the Eastern USA, and any of the Western USA west of Texas and Kansas.
I have been to 48 states plus DC, which really doesn’t count since I live 20 miles from there. All 48 have been done by motorcycle, 47 in the last two years alone. I plan on hitting Alaska by bike in the next couple of years, and Hawaii at some point, just don’t know when.

That is 28. I am missing most of the Great Plains and the West.
31 total, but most were due to my short lived career as a truck driver that required me to drive from Washington or California along I-80 to Michigan or Indiana and back every week or so.
Living in Washington it’s almost impossible not to enter Idaho, Montana and Oregon at some point.

I went outside of the airport in Michigan, but only to smoke. I don’t think that one counts
Idaho- I live here, so that’s a given. Oregon- been there dozens of times for various reasons Washington- Been to Seattle four times, first time was in 1993. California- I’ve only been there once, back in 1984, and it was only the northern extremity when we went to see the redwood trees. Nevada- I can barely count this one, too. I’ve only been as far as Jackpot, which is primarily a gambling town right across the Idaho-Nevada line. I’ve been there a couple dozen times or so. Montana- Visited Helena and Missoula with a friend, 1985. Kansas- Made several trips to visit a friend who lived there before I helped him move back here this summer. Colorado- Drove through it along I-70 and up I-25 during aforementioned move. Wyoming- Drove through it on I-80 for said moving trip, stayed in Green River overnight.
I’ve also been in Utah and Texas, but they don’t count since the OP specified to not include airport layover stops.

32 of em. Would like to see the rest. Need to hit New England, Dakotas, Alaska, Mid-Atlantic and Deep South. Only made Michigan barely. Far western tip of the Upper Peninsula, more like Wisconsin, really.
I actually don’t travel much. I hit many of these on two big trips.
I always drive damn fast, and am pretty please with myself when I don’t get speeding tickets. I sing a funny little song as I’m driving and a leave a state for the last time. It goes like this:
“Ha Ha Ha!
Ha Ha (insert state name here)
You didn’t catch me!
Ha Ha Ha!”
Oh, how the miles just seem to fly by!
She told me she loved me like a brother. She was from Arkansas, hence the Joy!
