How many times can you split your cable line?

I currently have my cable line split into two lines in this room, one for TV and one for my cable modem. The line that is split into the two lines in my room is originally split from I guess a main line in the attic. Is there a theoretical limit to the number of times you can split a cable TV line? If I had the money and equipment, could I have a differnet TV for every cable TV channel and have them all on at the same time?

Every time you split the cable you cut the signal in half. If you split it too much then you will start getting snow and signal problems. You can put in a few distribution amplifiers which woud allow you to split it to a fairly rediculous amount like 1 tv per channel.

Some cable modems do not react well to the amplifiers used to boost the signal (or at least, so my cable provider says). If you find that yours is one of them, you’re better off going back to the source, splitting it there and running a single line to the cable modem, then using an amplifier to ensure that the rest of the televisions got the needed signal strength.

Have been running five splits to seven tv’s and five vcr’s for about 20 years-------all off of one input Cable.

Pix are great-----taped programs also great.

No signal loss or audio distortion.

Use good quality splitters and connectors-------[got mine from the cable installer].

Occasionally rotate all connectors to keep contact fresh.

Split away-----what can you lose?

most important------use good cable between units-------try to get cable and connectors from an installer ------the stuff that comes with the units is usually a grade above junk.

Try to use threaded connectors------the push-ons are work savers but they sometimes sacrifice quality.

I learned the importance of good splitters a while back. I constantly had cable modem problems, with my cable modem randomly turning off… It was somehow because of the splitter not being strong enough, but what was weird was it was totally random when it decided to stop working.

The Cable in this room is at the end of a 3 levels of cascading splits – had some serious signal deterioration problems until I replaced all the splitters with quality equipment and eliminated any “open” splits.

For instance, at one point there were 3 lines coming out of the split and the original setup was a cheap 4-way splitter with a “terminator” plug on the “open” output. End quality was awful. After some trial and error, discovered I could replace it with two pro-quality 2-way splitters (Line A to lines A’ and B, line A’ to lines C and D) and fix the problem.

Speaking of splitters I need a new two way one. I was using one the cable installer gave me but it started putting out a bad signal on channel 48. I tried a different cable and still alot of noise what do you all suggest?
