Sorry to ask such a simple factual question, but I tried google and it’s simply not helping. At any given moment, how many twelfth graders exist in the US? I’m trying to get a rough estimate of how many people would be enrolling if the US were to instate a free public university system.
I checked the census. They aren’t broken down by grade, but there are 2,078,853 male 18 year olds and 1,972,745 female. If you look around the site some you might be able to refine that number into 12th graders.

If this were to happen, quite a bit more people than just 12th graders would be enrolling.
