How many voters used the "Write In Candidate" option

Today while voting, I didn’t know anything about the candidates in one of the races, and I wrote in my own namne in the “write in” option. After chuckling to myself for a minute or two, I went back and changed it to a “no vote”. (We were using electronic voting booths with touch screens where we were allowed to go back and change our votes.)

So did any of you dopers out there use the “Write In” option?

Not this year, but a couple of elections ago I wrote in Major Frank Burns for county coroner. Anyone who confuses a .22 bullet hole in the back of the head with smoke inhalation NEEDS to be voted out…

Not this year.

A few years back I was so disgusted by the conduct of the candidates for Governor in their campaign that I wrote in my favorite Professor from my Grad school in Political Science.

She was SO much a better candidate than those two idiots, too…

I wrote myself in for Wayne State University Board of Governors. I did a brief email campaign with my friends and immediate family in Michigan, trying to drum up for support. I fear the email and bribes of beer may not have paid off.

I asked my mom tonight if she voted for me and she said no. :frowning:

My BF tells me he wrote in Indiana Jones.

I’m wondering exactly what that presidency would be like.

(Er, that is, he wrote in Indy for president. Honestly I kind of wish he’d gone ahead and voted Kerry since he hates Bush, but it wasn’t going to make any kind of difference, so I can’t be too annoyed with him.)

In Carson City we had the touch screen dodaddies. I didn’t see a way to do a write in, which didn’t seem right to me.

I was tempted to write in Turd Sandwich and Giant Douche, but that might of invalidated my ballot.

On a related note, something a friend and I were discussing earlier: what would happen if a person cast a write-in vote for “W”? What about “Dubya”? Would either of them count?

For that matter, what if you wrote “George W. Bush” or “John F. Kerry”? If they’re already on the ballot, and you bypass those options in favor of a write-in, is it assumed that you’re voting for someone other than than the Big Two?

Our wonderful US Senator did just yesterday! Lincoln Chaffee wrote in G. Bush, Sr. as a protest. I love Lincoln Chaffee.

There was a write-in candidate for mayor here whom I voted for. Looks like she may win, too.

Yep, I wrote in Donna Frye’s name, too. I didn’t think she’d have a snowball’s chance in hell, seeing as how she threw her hat into the ring so late in the game. I was surprised to hear this morning that she was in the lead.

I felt like I was being “ubercitizen” by actually using my write-in power. Now I hope I made the right choice!

I did.

I voted for Dave Barry.

I wrote her in, too, and so did most people I know. Of course, we all voted for Kerry, too… I like Donna Frye, but I’d trade her victory for one for Kerry in a hearbeat!

It is a pretty amazing win. It’s interesting to think about how she might have done if she actually, y’know, had some money and campaigned.

I didn’t this time, but I always write in a name (usually a friend) whenever a candidate is running unopposed.

The city of Caledonia, MN had 3 write-in winners. The mayor and 2 cicty council members decided not to run agaian, and no one filed in time to be on the ballot.
(there were 3 people running for mayor, and at least 3 people running for city council)

One of my coworkers didn’t know anything about either or the canditates for Representative in his district since he’s new to the area, so he wrote in himself. He found out later that he didn’t meet the minimum age of 25, not that it was an issue…

There actually was an Enright on the Palm Beach County ballot. No write-in necessary!

When voting in the Californian primary this year, I picked up the Republican ballot (to vote in the Senate and House primaries), and wrote-in Abe Lincoln for President.
