How many years has it been since you've gotten a speeding ticket?

2 in my entire lifetime, one when I was 17 and one about 19 years ago. I did also get a warning about one taillight being out about 10 years ago.

female, 51 years old FWIW.

I’ve been driving since 1969. Never got a speeding ticket; never even pulled over for going too fast.

First and last speeding ticket was in 1962. Was flying low around Lambert Field in St. Louis - unfortunately was in an automobile, not an airplane.

Actually, I’ve gotten only two traffic tickets - and have been driving since 1948. The non-speeding one was not my fault, but I didn’t think fast enough to be able to give the cop a perfectly good excuse for what I was doing. Sort of like when you think of the perfect comeback about two days after it would have been effective.

If I beat the ticket, does that count? Or only convictions? Last got a ticket in 2006 that I beat. Before that 1994, and I didn’t fight that one…so 18 years…

Deserved? Probably once a week.

Caught? Never. Like FairyChatMom or RealityChuck, I’ve never even been pulled over, and my last parking ticket was well over ten years ago.

Not driving like a complete idiot and not being the fastest thing on the road has served me well.

Probably 16-17 years.

I’ve been driving for 8 years and haven’t had a speeding ticket (or any other moving violation) yet, knock on wood. I did get one parking ticket 5 years ago for leaving my car for 4 hours at a 2-hour meter.

Most of it is luck. If there’s no congestion, I’m habitually between 5-15 over the limit. I just haven’t been pulled over yet. The day will come.

I got two in one day about eighteen months ago. One on my way to work and one on my way home. That was an amazing day.

Five years since my first and only speeding ticket.

Hate to say it, but the cop got me dead to rights. There’s a road that leads to my plant - straight, flat, near an industrial area. Speed limit is 30 MPH, I’d prefer it was 45. But 30 it is.

Cop caught me going 42. Pulls me over, and pulls the total jerk act. I was polite and friendly throughout the whole process.

“I clocked you at about 42 mph.”
“Yes, officer, that’s about right. Sorry about that.”
“WHY are you in such a HURRY?”
“Oh, officer - you know. Long, flat, empty road. And this new car of mine. Again, sorry about that.”

Officer scowls, demands license, registration. Goes back to his squad car to run them for about 15 minutes.

Stalks back, furious (I assume because he couldn’t find anything else to tag me with)

“I’m writing you a ticket. You must either surrender your license immediately or give us another acceptable card to keep driving.”
“Will a AAA card suffice?”
scowls “…yes. You’ll get it back in the mail when you pay the ticket.”

Then he stalks back to his squad car. I call out the window, “Sorry for speeding, officer. Won’t happen again!”

He pauses, kinda half looks back, and snorts. What a jerk. But I paid the ticket without contesting it, because yeah, I had been speeding.

No moving violations in 20 years.

Citation for not wearing a seat belt as a passenger in 1990 . Two citations for failure to yield, 1991 and 1992. Citation for inattentive driving in 1998. Nothing since.

knocks on wood

Not sure if the “failure to yield” citations are moving violations. “Inattentive driving” isn’t. If “failure to yield” is not a moving violation in my state, I’ve never had one.

I’ve only gotten one. Over $200 for attempting to mow down school children by going 26 mph on an arterial. That was about 5 years ago.

School zones are such bullshit. Half the time you can’t even tell if you’re in one (I did know I was in one, but fuck them anyway).

35, had my license since 2000, never had any kind of ticket, be it parking or speeding.

Of course, I very rarely drive…

Never been pulled over. 49 YO, driving for almost 31 years now.

Parking tickets? Out the wazoo. But I live in a relatively big, relatively car-friendly and public-transportation-hostile city (Tel Aviv), so them’s the breaks…

I haven’t had a speeding ticket since 1973.
My husband has never had one.

Got my license in 1973. My last (and only) speeding ticket was in 1975.

I was in my Camaro. The ticket was for 89 mph in a 35 zone. It was kind of expensive. Officer congratulated me on being the “best one I’ve had all day!”, and then wanted to look under the hood.

Can’t remember my last. It has been years and years.

In the US? I’ve never heard of this process before.

That is really strange. Never heard of having to do that before.

Wow…in 1990? That seems well before the whole campaign to “click it or ticket” and all that. Was this in America?

My last one was 1981, 10 MPH over in a school zone, in rural Kansas, where the limit drops at odd times. My watch wasn’t exactly correct.

Since then, I’ve been driving like a mad man in the Washington DC area and I’ve never even been pulled over. I don’t know what you have to do here to get a ticket.

I’ve never had one, or been pulled over. Parking tickets don’t exist where I live. I’m 35 and have had my license since I was 16.
